Exclusively Setters

Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

Most of all I can't complain, because I am blessed with two wonderful setters who have a rabbit proof recall, wich I believe says a lot! They are wonderful and better behaved than 90% of the dogs I know, and I can take them pretty much any place without problems. They are also aware of what "do not under any circunstances ever dream of doing that again in your life" means and obey it.

However, every now and then one of them does something so reckless and insane, that I find myself thinking "that's it, she's going to get herself killed now". They do it with this very natural look, like "that" is something as normal as eating or sleeping.

Today there was a big storm, with lots of rain and cold wind. Naturally, being setters, my girls insisted on going out for a walk, so while everyone else was tcuked under a blanket inside, I was out in the fields with two crazy reds wearing waterproof jackets. And what did Romã decide to do????

She looked at me for a second with "that look" and jumped into a river, filled up by the rain and with a very strong flow, with her jacket still on. I figured she was going to drown because of the flow and the weight of the jacket!!!!!
Miss Romã enjoyed her swim very much, went up and down the river with no trouble and came out when she decided it was enough. I watched this speechless, as generaly happens when they go fully insane on me, looked at her and told her my ususal "do not under any circunstances ever dream of doing that again in your life, because if you don't get killed, I'll kill you after" and then carried on with our walk... I have some more simillar stories, but honeslty, after the "NEVER AGAIN, DOG" speech, I do my best to repress the memory of whatever happened!

Please tell my I'm not the only one with a couple of pathologically insane setters at home!!!!

oh the perverseness (is that a word????!) of our setters.....gotta love them though.....!!

Then there's rolling in fox dung.....I know what she is thinking...I know what it is....I say 'No' and then in a flash she is on her back rolling as deep as she can! The smell is obnoxious and I hate it! Ellie also hates being bathed so I wonder what drives her to do it....suppose it's instinct or,in this case, foxstinct!

Ever since I dared to write this blog my girls seem to give more and more reasons to write about insanity at my place!
Pitanga has decided to go back to her normal active self and now they act like a pair of 1 year olds (lots of energy and playtime, minus the destruction of a tiny pup). Pitanga woke me up at 4 am tonight with a toy - she wanted to play fetch at 4 am. For a minute I though it may be a nightmare, but the toy was placed on top of my a second time. Whatever I said made her go back to sleep.

I'll try to describe what is happening right now in my living room:

There are two setters and two Kongs flying around (yes, the setters are flying too). Kongs keep switching dogs, but they are not taking them from each other, they are throwing them at each other (I didn't even know dogs could throw stuff).

There are also carpets moving from one side to the other. I have just been attacked by my table, that got hit by a red ball of fur. My housemate has offered to take them to the gym with her! ;-)
Oh, and we are just back from an hour long walk!

... I just love my red crazyness :-)

Teresa, I was trying to leave for work this morning when I kept hearing "rrruff! Rrruff!" Looked up the stairs and there was my Yorkie sitting at the top with a toy in her mouth! Had to run up and play tug of war/fetch for a few minutes before leaving!

Well, with Keba in traction, it is up to Rooker to be a one dog wrecking ball and he is more than up for the task. And yes, Teresa, they can throw things. Rooker has an over sized tennis ball that he can just carry. He'll run towards me and then release it from 5 ft away as a sort of pitch so I can then kick it for him ad nauseum.

Most of the in house hijinks are ok except for when they rear like stallions. I always put the brakes on that one.
