Riley also got kennel cough and I took him to the vet. He got it from the dog park no doubt. So now I'll be bringing my own bowl and water. Riley and Fiona are hating being apart but it's the it has to be until he's better.

Some years ago when we were showing 2 IS's they caught it and the vet suggested we always kept Benelyn (Cough Mixture) and give a teaspoonful to ease the cough.. Has anyone else had this advise?

Oh Sue, I am so sorry!!! Oberon cleared in ~1 week, but in the end without antibiotic, fortunately it looks it was not too long. He became addicted to his evening dessert of milk and honey, but that's another story ;)

I hope Steo will be well soon!!! It was so distressing to see Oberon with the nasty cough:((

Hi silvia. Sorry to hear Oberon has kennel cough. Would you believe it,his brother Steo has it too!!! We've got antibiotics as he was quite bad with it compared with 6 year old Finn who got it from his deerhound friend !

hi Eunice

I use this company http://www.barkingmad.uk.com/ and they are really wonderful.. actually they charge a bit more than the (cheapest) kennels, say 20£ per day (there are kennels from 10-12£ up to 40£ for the superluxury, here). But the advtantage is that they do a one-to-one service so the dog has the whole attention of a family, and when Oberon sees their van he runs into it without even look back at us!! i have never tried that arrangement. They have families like that in Sydney. Molly always goes to the kennel but sometimes it can become expensive. We do travel a bit to see family in the NT of Australia. I may give it a go next time after July.

not even in the Uk.. reason why we have not vaccinated Oberon is that he never went in a kennel so far.. we always boarded him with companies that organize host families when we needed to travel (so basically the dog is staying in a family and there werent other dogs..)

thanks to everybody! Indeed, it looks we are getting better: Oberon is coughing only very occasionally now:) Hopefully a few days more and we'll be over!! I hope !! Honey with bit of milk is his favorite evening dessert: it will be sad to take it away when he'll get better ;)

Poor Oberon doesnt know that- if he's better- he is already booked for a small surgery next Thu.. we need to fix a little umbilical hernia (he had since the mom bite at birth). I have been told he'll only need to stay at lead and rest for 2-3 d after, so is really minor, but still it will mean a few days more without his dog friends.. He'll definitely need some good long walks and plays after all is over!! :)

en passant (but this may be another post): I read some controversy about the fact that umb. hernias may be an issue if we wish to breed him. His vet is of different opinion and she said is not a concern at all (as far as we know none of Oberon parents had some in the family, so is definitely something from the mom bite. ) Has anybody an experience on this?

We are not professional breeders, but it may be nice to find a girlfriend for Oberon at some point, we definitely dont exclude (and wish) it :)

thanks!!
