Totally agree with you Rob. As with all creatures there are horses for courses, some IS are dead smart some are just plain daft. Errol, my older boy, is really sharp: he reads my face like a book, listens to every word I whisper and understands hand signals at a great distance. I’m not suggesting he’s perfect but sometimes I think he’s just not challenged enough. He would have made a great field dog. I’m not suggesting he’s perfect but sometimes I think he’s just not challenged enough. He would have made a great field dog. Byron, however, is all over the shop, full of youthful exuberance, and totally random on commands especially when furry creatures are involved (and despite achieving Silver KC Good Citizenship – by the skin of his teeth I might add) so will require lots more training. In the end I believe you get out what you put in and to toss all IS in one pot and to declare them stupid, difficult, scatty, crazy or whatever label they get thrown at just reflects the laziness and ignorance of some people.
ha ha I like the idea of such…tag:irishsetters.ning.com,2014-02-27:865021:Comment:11335022014-02-27T08:41:18.056Zsilviahttp://irishsetters.ning.com/profile/silviamarco

Hi Catherine,

I'm not around much lately either and Beth just took some great photos of the boys we hope to post soon but I also saw that survey, among others they do about dogs all the time. I was quite irate about that also. I am a life long Irish lover and I find them to be quite intelligent. All you have to do is go S-Q and Rooker is looking in the trees for those bushy tailed rodents. He does some other things too that are quite remarkable. His brother, well maybe not quite so…

All you have to do is go S-Q and Rooker is looking in the trees for those bushy tailed rodents. He does some other things too that are quite remarkable. His brother, well maybe not quite so much but he is a lover. The fact is that you have to know what you are getting with an Irish and when you don't, it is simple to dismiss the breed.

I did also see an article by a vet where he stated that he missed seeing Irish Setters in his office. I got a chuckle the other day when a friend was over who had never met the boys and he was OMG, do they get bigger than this?

A little late but Howard, sorry to hear about Joan and I hope things are improved.

One more thing, I also do not use FB, they should do a study on a correlation between FB users and breed of dog owner. There must be funding for that.
I come on here from time to time also ;) Not as often as before, perhaps a bit soured by some unpleasant members from last year!!

I must make an effort to pop on more often and contribute, as I did at the beginning in 2007 ;)

Posting photos today to start!!

Not intend on leaving either! :) ES is still a great source of information (better than Facebook I feel) but I often use the SEARCH for instant advice - most topics have been discussed at some point - rather than to add another discussion.

Will do Catherine!

I don't have a lot of free time, but I'm sure I'll be able to find a few moments on my weeks to write a blog post about what's going on, what I'm learning and my opinion about it!

I'm sure I'll have fun writing my own version of the American Dream just for you guys!
