After Misty's cancer surgery and laparoscopic spey in 2014 her coat changed and became much thicker. Because of my arthritic hands I had no chance in reducing the thickness with thinning scissors so I decided to clip her with a #7 blade from the top of her head down to her tail and along her sides. This has helped Misty cope much better with the heat and makes it easier for me to check her for ticks. This photo was taken at The University of Queensland veterinary hospital on a very hot day. I think Misty looks much better now being clipped because this accentuates her natural outline. Everywhere we go people come up to me to say how beautiful she is.

Dear James and Cornelia, I am happy you approve. Misty is my first English Setter to have a coat change after being speyed. Her coat has always been thicker than my Orange Beltons - whether this is the reason? Using clippers is certainly much easier than thinning scissors. I clip Misty every 4 weeks now because obviously the coat does grow back thicker after clipping. I enjoy grooming her though. I have always enjoyed grooming my English Setters. Hugs to you both, and Joy and Rory xxxx

Hi Susan thanks for your other message!!! Glad to see Misty starts to be happy with other dogs again.. it will take time and patience I guess. But, considering how beautiful and smart she looks with her new hair, i bet it wont be long before she find LOTS of new friends !!

beautiful picture indeed, Misty!! XX

Hi Silvia, Thank you for your positive comments about Misty's coat. As happens with us humans, Misty's grief for Hobson adversely affected her physical health which in turn adversely affected her coat. Even the Autumn months at the start of this year were very hot. I am happy you all like her new look. I am not concerned how Misty reacts to other dogs on our walks because I understand. She has never experienced death before and she loved Hobson very deeply, as he loved her. Misty's deafness also affects her feelings of vulnerability. Dogs are no different from us humans - we each have our own journeys, our own stories, our pasts, all of which can affect how we feel and react - and there are positives and negatives that go with everything. Misty's deafness causes separation anxiety but her intuitiveness is heightened. It is beautiful to watch Misty with elderly people, for instance. She knows when they have an injury or they are frail and she is ever so gentle when she is around them. They all love her. Everyone loves Misty because she is so sweet and harmless and gentle. Please give your boy, Obi some hugs from Misty and me. xxxxxx
