Ellie is now 7-1/2 months old and has her first show May 2nd thrue 5th. She is entered in the puppy class which I've heard can be a bit like putting a pack of wild hooligans together in the ring. Although she minds pretty well when we are alone she is a terror when with other people or dogs. It took weeks to teach her not to jump on the kids at the elementary school and just enjoy them petting her. She is not aggresive, just goes into hyper play mode, and amnesia as to her training. Has…

After losing our lovely Ruairi only a week ago I'm watching Dillon our older boy who will be 9 at the end of July very carefully.
He's the type of boy who I think will now get old without his Mr Motivator and am wondering if we should get him a companion. He and Ruairi were both entire and it was never an issue, not for a moment. They were uncle and nephew and we had Ruairi as an 8 week old puppy when Dillon was 2 and a half.
If we decide to get him a companion we would want…

Summertime Lady "shines" in Spring.
She won her first qualification in field trials (very good) last sunday in Sinsheim. This young Irish import impressed not only because of her stylish points but as well for looks on the trials in the village near Heidelberg, organized by the English setter club Deutschland. Her next trial this season is in the last weekend…

Elsa is nearly 10 months now, last night in the fields she was just wondering along looking for rabbits as she does with the wind behind us. Suddenly she went further into the field in a large loop back the way we had come she slowed down and stoped after a while ( thought she had found a rabbit ) then she moved slowly forward, and up from the ground about 1 metre in front of her flew a large pheasant. For another 5 minutes she was hunting for more, very excited and pleased with herself she…

I would appreciate some help with trimming the neck of an Irish Setter.
I have just purchased a set of electric clippers and would like to know what number plastic blade cover to use.
Any other advise and hints would be good as I do not want to make a complete botch of the job on my first attempt.
Thank you,
Graham.

Just wanted to let you all know that tragically we had to let our beloved Ruairi go yesterday. He slipped away at home with us cuddling and talking to him through our tears. The vet was wonderful as ever.
Miss him and am watching Dillon and loving him more than ever as he must be grieving for his soulmate as much as we are in his way.
Poor Ruairi, only 6 years old and all that sparkle and life gone. Am totally bereft. thank you for all your kind comments and sympathy.

Hello our ES friends! You may have noticed we have been much less active here in ES lately... well we have a very good reason:
We have been very busy adding some new skills to our list: I'm taking my first steps into proper dog training: Clicker training to be more specific - very time consuming!
And of course, Pitanga and Romã have been as busy as mee, helping me with my new skill!!!
I tought I'd let you guys with a few links of some videos I made with our more recent…
