HI Lizzi , anybody know how to get knots out off their fur ?, also should he be clipped to short fur , as this is my first setter i am new to grooming these dogs
Hi Lilian, there is an excellent DVD by Dee Milligan-Bott about styling of an Irish Setter: http://www.redcape.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&produc...
If I remember correctly, she is using a conditioner (for dogs) and is working on the wet hair until she has managed to untangle all the knots (which can take quite a while). When you are showing a dog, you don't want to loose part of the beautiful coat.
I use the thinning scissors in an 'emergency' (i.e. when I can not entangle a knot) but a Setter's hair is never clipped to shot fur. The only exception I make is the hair between the toes and behind the ears. I can also not recommend going to a groomer, unless he/she knows how to groom an Setter.
Btw.: Paddy looks great on your knew user photo - maybe you can upload a photo of him, now he sort of grown up. Best wishes, C & J xxx
Hi Cornelia, Thank you for your reply and i will probably get the dvd , he really gets knotted behind his ears so we do have to cut them out.as soon as i get my phone up and running i will upload photos of him. He is still very naughty and always pinching things he also thinks were his playmates ,when he feels like nipping but i suppose he'll calm down one day (i pray) but thanks for replying.i will be in touch.
