McBIRDY - Jean DUHANT

Irish Setter Club Belgium Field Trial at Bertinchamps (B) - 30/8/2009 - Judge: M. de le Hoye (B)

For the first Field Trial organised by our breed club, Fletcher of McBirdy pulled it off !
He won the first place with the qualification 'VERY GOOD !
14 dogs were engaged: some from The Netherland, some from France and of course from Belgium.
After training days, it was the great day !
Weather was fine and phesants seem not to be so clever than in Switzerland (see Susan's blog) !

I must say that Fetcher surprised me. In fact, I pulled out the Joker (the last place) and in 'Amateurs' competitions, it's a bad one. Your dog has to wait for a long time, seeing others dogs running in the Field. And also, there are a lot of 'hot places' where game are laid down.
But it was a special run for Fletcher.
He started in a speedy way, making good search and braces.
Suddenly, he took emanations and ran on ahead at a hundred meters from me and pointed in a very strong way.
I thought "he is going away" and I ran fastly to him. But he did'nt leave ! He was waiting for me and we can flushed the pheasant.
Fletcher stayed in place, so the judge gave him the point. And he continued in the same way, he found another bird, pointed it and received another point. Wouh !!

The judge finaly give him the first place with the 'VERY GOOD' qualification and confessed he hesitated to give him an excellent.

It was also a good day for our french friends Cathy and Christophe Forster: both their dogs were also qualified.

Full results are:
1st VG - Fletcher of McBirdy - IRS
2nd VG - United Spots O'Hara - IRWS
3rd G - Fay O'Conlock - IRS
4th G - Cotton Candy de la Cour Saint Florent - IRS
5th CQN- Dansk dynasty Denzo - PO

It's a great achivement for us. We are proud to confirm it's possible to have good results in Field Trial with dogs from show lines. But you have to train earlier, with patience and perseverance.

With this result (and CACIB he obtained on show), he can aspire now to be 'INT.B.CH' (International Beauty Champion'

Good to experience the committee of the Belgian club is active to promote field sports.

The Irish Setter Club of Belgium provides a bridge for beginners to reach a level of CAC/CACIT trials. Maybe this might resurrect a Belgian national team for the EC of working Irish setters. That needs some self-critics on average style shown (not above continental lowest category - so not within setter-parameters of FCI rules), but everything needs to begin somewhere. Thats the point here. Good luck.

Congrtulations, you must have been over the moon! How good to see that our breed in the right hands can still do what they were bred to do. I wish you many more successes in the future. Success in the show ring too....just shows that beauty & brains can go together........proves RogerMugford wrong doesn't it!
