Hi - yes Margaret put up a good arguement for it - so have entered Caley (dog) as Islay (bitch) has just been spayed and i dont think she would be ready in time. However i do warn everyone i have never shown before and it could be hilarious !!!

Judge is Carol Moore Gadhelic Gordons. I am just trying to make sure she has a good entry of Reds and IRWS/ she is a good judge and she has agreed to travel from Wales for most of the gundogs and the group.
Can you pass this on

Hi there, Thanks for the invite, but I really don't have anything to show at the moment, try again after February I will be open for open shows then, the more the merrier, haven't really done that many open shows since I have been up here, but will have to start, (the two girls are now retired), so only have one to show in the future, Who is the judge????

Hi Margaret
look forward to seeing you at setter and pointer. You can say hello to Irish CHAMPION Dalriach Infamous Grouse!
Fergal ran his qualifier in the Wicklow mountain trial yesterday and passed.

Hi Evie - getting really excited now it is only 2 weeks to Jarnos big day!!! and then at Gundog Breeds the following week! Hope you are well and are going to Setter and Pointer. I am busy making a patchwork benching rug at the mo. Have been doing some roadwork and using a high stand to feed him on it seems to be doing the trick

Yes what with the amount of work I decided I should put into making a really good show at the Midland and then after committing myself to that finding out about the puppies I left myself with a very heavy schedule. Then to add to that I had not thought how much effort I would have to put in to get Brier Traveling in the car which with my family commitments in the Oxford area has to be sorted. But we are getting there and may give the trip to Oxford(200 miles) a go this weekend. Everything is happening so quickly and I have so little experience to draw on, it is all a bit daunting. I am sure I will make mistakes but I just hope I don't train in to many faults. Brier is just starting to follow his nose so I am going to have to be very careful how much freedom I give him without some control in place. I am having problems with releasing him from the drop so I have a dilemma, too strong on the drop and he will not recall, too weak and he won't drop. Didn't have this problem with Toby as he would not stay down but then he was 2 and had hardly been trained at all. I think they will be very different characters but time will tell. Hope all is well with you.

OK who let the secret out. Yes I have a new little pal call Brier (Delriach Osprey) as of 26/08/09 and I'm very VERY tired. He's got a great pair of lungs and an interesting repertoire but not at night, ALL night. I no he is missing his mum and his family BUT! Actually Toby is being brilliant with him so last night I bit the bullet, warned the neighbors and put them both in the outside run together over night. Brilliant, not a sound I can't believe my luck.

Hi Dave
ok spill the beans on the Gordon FT - I have my reservations about some of todays Gordons in the field. Penny Darragh's ones are ok and one or two but it seems to me they have lost the ability to cut through rough ground. They rocking horse over the top of it and wear themselves done in no time.

Your observations??

We were represented at the CLA and managed to come away with a trophy for the best stand ah well recognition where you can get it!

Thanks for the feedback on HD stand. They are all quite new to the outdoor events (I have done the Royal Highalnd Show for years) and they like a bit of encouragement.

Think you might have been talking to either Pauline (she does assessment for us) or a lady with a double barrell name ending in Lamberton who is one of our speakers)

They didnt make their volunteers pay from the Southern Society did they?
You get an allocation of passes for every stand and then we pay for the other peole we bring in. When I changed the format of our stand at RHS two years ago I had about 20 hearing dogs over the four days along with my team. We paid a discount price for the tickets but we paid for them. I would be inclined to say thanks but Iam busy. Volunteers give of their time and their energy (in your case your skills)the least they can do is pay to get you in!

Had an interesting two days at the Gordons FT, pics on my page. Not very good I am afraid but I did my best between the rain and wind.
Had a good day at the CLA as well and the IR&WS team won a prize and a very nice trophy for best display in Discover Dogs. Spent quite a long time talk with a lady from Hearing Dogs who is planning to get an IR&WS as her next dog when she can find the right one. I didn't make a not of her name though, Silly me. These shows are getting very expensive and are expecting more and more from voluntary organisations who give their time to exhibit at these events. I had to pay the full £26:00 entry to help out the Souther Society for R&WS representing the bread and the team were expected to do three parades during the day which didn't leave much time to look round. The Midland in September is even wears, only 2 tickets and 1 car pass per day and the stand has to be peopled without a break both days so you will be tied to the display all day. It will be interesting to see how many breeds are represented.

Hi Dave - ooh that makes me mad!!

We have been talking about making enquiries at the likes of Scone, and Glamis etc to take the dogs - when you look at the Highland Show there are literally hundreds of dogs go to the show and thousands of dog owners!!!

Our biggest draw on the Hearing Dog stand was the huge water bowls which we kept full with clean fresh water all day.

Still working towards getting setters together later this year! Determined!

Hi again
How did things go for you at the Highland Show. Just got back from a weekend representing IR&W's at the new Royal County Game Fair near Reading at Mapledurham House. Met some great people but only saw four setters over the two days. Two R&W, both mine and a friends on duty from the GB club. 1 adult Red with terrible health problems and an adorable Red puppy. On Saturday I did not see another Setter or Pointer and it wasn't just me that noticed it. HPR'S, Spaniels, Retrievers but no traditional Bird Dogs. Shame!!?
