What do you do to stop your dog eating wooden sticks?

Nice to see Mac again !

I don't stop mine eating sticks , it usually helps to keep the teeth clean ! :-)

argh, wooden sticks are a no no here :)

but this morning, early morning,  Oberon  was out just 30' with his furry friend and then went home. half an hour later i came out of the shower just to see a good pot of undigested wooden sticks vomited in his bed :((((

i nearly killed my husband for allowing him to wolf them- but yes, sometimes they are fast and what can we do??

hope mac is wiser than Obi! wonderful pic of wild and happy Mac !!!!!!!!!!! : ))

Mine don't really eat them but use small logs like a big marrow bone and clean their teeth on them ! :-)

That 's much clever : ))))

Mac does eat wooden sticks totally, not just using them as a bone marrow, and he loves twigs too!  We can find them in his stool, sometimes practically the length of my small finger, this can certainly not be good for his bowels  ..... we both watch him very carefully but this little devil is so clever and fast!!!!  I think Obi and Mac will have to go to see your dogs Catherine, and learn how to use a stick properly  :-)

Hi Chatal, Nice photo of Mac!! And nice to see you here again! I go the middle way with sticks. Joy loves playing with a stick in the water these days but when she starts lying down and chew them to bits, I take it away. She does not really eat the bits but I'm very careful. Sticks that are old and splint a lot are a no, no even for playing.

But your question was, what to do to stop the dog eating the stick. Joy usually starts to chew on a stick, when we are sitting on a bench and she's bored. So I can easily throw a bad stick out of the range of the leash. I also started to take a real chewy with for her for those moments. But that's probably not really helpful for your question as your dogs run free on the beach, quickly picking up flotsam... regards to all and kisses from Joy xxx

Hi Cornelia :-) thanks for the comment about the picture - as you have guessed, made by David as I am still the same gifted photographer but I honestly think that my numerous missed shots are almost pure abstract art  :-)
Yes my dogs run free, so less control possible, but I like your idea and will take a ball or a toy with me now.
Wishing you all the very best, cuddles to Joy  xxx
