THOUGHTS ON BASIC TRAINING (JD notes).doc
BOOK LIST - Pointers and Setters.doc

I am trying to add two docs I received from the KC field trial committe, secretary Mrs Hilary Gould.
The book 'Pointers & Setters' by Derry Argue is certainly one worth having!

Thank you both for your help!! I will look for that book and will try to halt some of the butterfly/bird chasing!! Although even though Rua was a great bee/butterfly hunter she still went very steady when pointing snipe!! When she flushed them she didnt chase, just went smelling where they had been!!

Sounds like a great Video I have a player, pop over and we can watch it together, DVD would be better though......;o)) It sounds like she is a natural...

Will you be doing any of the Circuit this year??? Will anyone be doing the Circuit this year....I would be starting to get ready for it now, I will, if I wasn't going to be so busy, be getting withdrawals by now..;o))
I am glad that you are so busy, that is good, but hard work, I used to run a kennel once, a few years ago, well many years ago, and I know how difficult it can be, do you have staff, or is it like I was, just you??...;o)

Just me and the dogs!!! Its a small kennel but when I moved, the budget only allowed a small unit(5 kennels) where I was before I had 12 units with teenager help in the summer!! I have 8 visitors at the moment(3 kennels with 2 dogs from same family) And then my 5 dogs plus the visiting Cara and one chicken and the cat!!;o)) Also one visiting cat!!! Cant do the circuit but will try to at least get to Clonmel at the start(my favourite show of the circuit!!) Hope the weather is ok!!;o)

Hi..I looked after 27 all in 12 kennels and a couple of cat kennels. Hard work especially as the owner was as tight as a ducks bum...not enough disinfectant etc. so made it really hard to keep it clean. They sold up in the end and it stopped being a boarding kennel...
As far as the circuit is concerned it couldn't be any worse than last year. That had to be one of the wettest in history...So fingers crossed for this year being better....Well if you get to Clonmel good luck to you and yours. Hope the judges are good this year...

Hi Carmel - I saw two Darry Argue videos and was a bit disapointed, I found the book far better. What you will almost definitely need (unless you are also a 'natural' like Abbey) is a couple a sessions with a good trainer who can give you 'homework' and get you started on the right track.

question: does anyone know Mr Vincent O'Brien (Irl) - judge for setters at Metz/France on Sept 12th - I am thinking of going...

Yes the video I have is just really a demonstration of the pointing instincts rather than a training guide!! I do believe the IRSC is planning another day with more training in the Autumn(would suit me better then as quieter in kennels!)As for Mr. O'Brien: I know the name but not sure what breeds he has or has had!! Trudy would know!!
