Exclusively Setters

Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

Went in the shopping centre today and saw 2 Irish Setter puppies, apparently a breeder sold them and gave them papers etc!  And guess what? At the same pet store that Ruby was from!!!

I am obviously out of touch as I haven't seen a puppy or kitten in a pet shop in England for many years.I thought it was no longer allowed.

I regularly go to France and am quite horrified when I go to shopping centers and see 'pedigree' dogs for sale in  pet shops. It makes me very angry but also helpless as I don't know what to do about it.

They will probably get transferred to another pet store, like my Ruby and her siblings did....
This is very upsetting.  What troubles me the most is not the sweet little guys in the pet store window ... they will likely get good homes because they are lovely and sweet.  It is the poor mum who is being bred over and over and over to make money for this horrible person who thinks of him/herself as a "breeder" .... loathesome.
The one thing I can say for where we live is they no longer sell puppies in pet stores in the county we live in....instead the local adoption groups hold their adoption events there ....good things do happen here inspite of being the puppy mill captial of the USA....hate that big time !!  Yesterday it was 74 collie dogs and pups rescued downstate from one....yet even though we voted to stop these operations and the constant breeding cycle they are trying to change the law we voted on to allow it to pretty much continue.  grrrrrrr!  I have never bred any of our dogs as I would not feel I have enough knowledge of what is best for the breed and respect honest respectable breeders but not puppy mills....we did put pressure on pet stores that were selling the dogs here and landlords stepped in and pretty much closed them down.  Adoption groups using the pet stores also let future pet owners have another option instead of the cute doggie in the window who needed to be rescued...still way too many need homes here as more and more puppy mills finally get overwhelmed and can not pass inspections so those dogs go into the rescue system here....ongoing endless cycle it seems and one that is so sad for any dogs and puppies involved.  Hope that you can have some success in preventing puppies being sold in stores....
the pet stores near us are always over flowing. Signs up weeks before advertising that they will be getting in this or that. There are lots of things that need to be changed. I would be going grrrrrrrrr to that also.
I am always horrified by the sale of animals in pet stores.  I and now my friends never shop in a store that sells puppies as it is so inhumane.  Perhaps if the Australian R.S.P.C.A. did more but I have contacted them and they are quite evasive in their reply and I wonder why????? If anyone knows of an online petition for Australia please post it.  Meanwhile please boycott the pet stores and get your friends to do likewise - losing customers talks.

Hi

The Australian RSPCA is more interested in making sure that breeders don't dock tails rather than attacking puppy farmers. They are well meaning but they to have some nutters who just have their own agendas with a narrow view.

UPDATE: A friend of mine went into the pet store today and asked for more information.

Apparently the breeder has more to sell and get this if the two sell then the breeder will bring more puppies in!

The pet store would not disclose of the breeder's name etc, but we are going to try...

sorry but this seems to be what they do. Try and sell a few and then keep bringing more in. Is this shop in Sydney. Keep trying but I don't think they will tell you who the breeder is... the good old privacy act. If you need any assistance let me know if I can help.
Can't believe people these days, terrible! The pet store is located in a shopping center Pets Paradise (even worse).
just email me the details as Pets Paradise's are in quite a few shopping centres better than putting details in a forum... up to you but I am quite happy to help

Hi Krista,

I will alert the Irish Setter Club of NSW that there are pups in a pet shop and see if they can do anything. In Qld, registered breeders are not allowed to sell to pet shops!
