Absolutely dedicated to the breed, along with English Setters.
Born in England, I moved to Australia as a child, and in my teens started importing Irish Setters from Wendover Kennels, and English Setters from Suntop Kennels. My latest Irish imports in 2004, 2009 and another in 2013 are all from the beautiful Copper's Kennel in Sweden.
I am a qualified Championship Judge for All Gundogs and the Non Sporting Group, and an Open Show Judge for all Toys, Terriers and Hounds.
My judging takes me all over the world, something I enjoy immensely.
hi myra thanks for the welcome.im from barnsley south yorkshire england.just been having a look at your babies they are beautiful.ive just the 1 red setter and an adopted boxer.we have had setters for about 31 years but our layla our beautiful baby now (SHES 4 ON 3RD OF MAY)is so very very special.about 18 months ago she was diagnosed with gpra ( not the rod cone1
)what a shock still crying 18 months on that our baby wont see anything soon.its upsetting me telling you about it.its affected family more than her, shes adapting fantastic weve just got to accept it.we have always had our dogs as pets but since we purchased layla got very interested in showing aspect but we just go to shows to watch and drool over this wonderful breed of dog.
Thankyou Myra.....well it took a lot of time and money! As I may have mentioned though, once the business is up and running by itself (and it's getting there) then my old setter Oscar really did make a difference:). I have a full time job plus hugx so it's all a bit hectic:). It just bugged me as an owner there was no evolution in something our pets use every day, and as a pet consumer I was keen to prove we could do better for our pets. This is the first time I've ever been on a site or replied to emails:) Normally I never get a chance dashing around.......so it's lovely you took time out to read. Thankyou. I see you know a lot about setters.....when I get a chance I'll upload (once I learn) images of Emmy and Oscar. Oscar was too damaged.hence why he was in the council pound, they were for putting him down. Emmy however poses beautifully...except I wouldn't know where to begin showing! She has taken as much of my heart as Oscar which I didn't think possible! Setters just have a natural "freedom" I adore...they are really characters. All the best Janex
Hi Myra,
have you already received your ISBC yearbook 2007 copy?? I hope you have :-) as your advert is the main winner of the advert competition and would like to congratulate on it!
I have posted a blog into the main page of Ex. Setters, where you can see mine and the other winners's advert as well.
Hopefully you also will be able to post your ad as most of us are still waiting for it very much.
Hope you are well!
Regards, Marta & Sarah :-)
I am glad you have had a pleasant jurney and got home safety and sound :-)
I suspected you would like the yearbook :-) Indeed, it is getting more and more varied every year thanks for the lovely ads :-)
Do the australian type labradors differ from the english type ones as much as in case of our breed?? What type do you prefer?
Oh well, anything you can do I can do better!!!!!!!My Internet has been down.. full stop.. for 3 weeks now isn't it frustrating??? I was like a bear with a saw head got real withdrawals from this site. Have you got your year book yet?? I haven't been to many shows, got one on Thursday, (Birmingham) and then there is a show in Dublin on Saturday keep your fingers crossed for that last Green Star, to make Jas an Irish Sh Ch, going to have to cut down soon costing too much, petrol is a horrendous price hear. My old girl is starting to get her coat back again thank goodness. My youngster has got a Aus Sh Ch as a brother he has just gained his title in Australia, (she hasn't got ANY coat at the moment) Will keep in touch Dee and the girls
We won the Open class but it was one of those disappointing wins, Jim Smith seemed to loose the plot in the end, I have seen judges looking around when they are supposed to be assessing movement, but NEVER just completely ignore them and go to the next exhibit and go over that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He gave the C.C. to graduate and R.C.C. to limit (Cris Heron and Biddy Evens!!!!!)
Someone came up to me after and said (as so many seem to) that she (Jas) looked really good and should have got the ticket, but they said that she had plenty of time to get there, they were absolutely shocked to hear that she is 7 and running out of time..... Oh well keep plugging on eh! I have known dogs getting their titles from veteran, the good thing is that the judge for tomorrow was there taking photos, lets hope it helps Dee and the girls
Hi there Myra, well its Ir.Sh.Ch Caspians Modesty J.W. and she did it in style going Best In Show a day I will never forget, I would like to put it on my page but I don't know how, I have a picture on my ''favorite'' from Zanti (I think that is how it is spelt) probably not. but I am sure you will know who I am talking about, she takes some lovely pictures, I just want to tell the world it is the first one since I started showing in 1971........I suddenly thought that I shouldn't have written that about Birmingham. Oh well, how to win friends etc.
I have had to celebrate on my own, its S.K.C. next Sunday so will do the big celebrate then. Dee and the girls
Thank you so much, I haven't even had a drop yet, got one of those dreadful Migraines I think that it was a result of the last few days all the ups and downs still there has been much more on the up side. I can't believe how kind people have been about her title she is so beautiful, I didn't say that it would not have been possible if not for Chloe, (Dave and Betty Laidlaws granddaughter) she moves Jas when she is about, and she was there for most of the Green Stars and the C.C. and R.C.C. it makes me go cold when I see them together they just flow. Dee
I wish I knew how to change things I managed to change my page but I don't know how to put a photo on my main picture. You can put pictures of your year book on the main Blog (I think that is what it is called) All the best Dee
Oh dear unfortunately I don't have one of them, I just have a daughter that tells me ''do this do that and then do something else'' and it all goes over my head. She gets angry and I give up, sometimes I 'play' but I can cause more problems that way, I am sure that I keep causing it to freeze or crash but I still seem to be able to get the things back, don't actually know how but I get there in the end....Dee
Never have been good at all this sought of thing I'm dyslexic (strange thing the spelling of that.....for people who can't spell or see words in the usual way) thank goodness for 'spell check'
Have you been to any shows lately?? Will speak soon Dee and the girls
I agree - I was spoilt, too! Lee and Ray brought me back a whole bag of goodies from Crufts, including the book and the Parade of Champions dvd (which you can borrow, if you haven't already got a copy).
Hi Myra - thanks for the comments :) It was a really great weekend away. We hadn't done the Geraldton show before, so didn't know what to expect, but they really have a nice set-up there, don't they? The place we stayed was good too - they permit you to have the dogs inside with you, and there was lots of space for them to run around. The dogs ran - we drank red wine ;-) (So everyone was happy!)
Myra - many thanks for the comments - I am an Australian living in London so hearing what is happening down south is a great advantage of the site. I used to have Dobermanns and have pleasantly surprised by the amount of positive interaction and friendliness of the setter group - the Dobe people are a tad less collaborative! cheers Louise
Hi Myra
I organised a charity premiere when it first came out and there were lots of people from the show comunity at it. I was suddenly terrieified as the opening credits rolled and it took about 15 minutes for people to start to see it as funny. Then they were rolling in the aisles. But the people most like the characters think the characters are like someone else they know. I have it on vid and I watch the Bloodhound guy again and again. as he lists all the "nuts"
When someone sent me this I couldnt resist! These folks are real!!! They are not part of Christopher guests imagination.
I see he has a new movie coming out which is a take on the Oscars
I'm afraid I won't make it to Stockholm as the last puppy leaves that weekend... pity, I'd have loved to meet you there! I'm looknig forward to hearing all about it!
Hello Myra,
Thank you for your message. Queen is a very lovely old lady. She is very old. 13 years old. She is well fortunately.
I hope for it you manage to bring a dog from the Wansleydale kennel. I now again from Slow Fox kennel I would like a dog. An English setter bitch. I like their dogs:))))))
Best regards,
Éva
Hi there Myra
I do love a good intrigue.....cant wait to find out what that is...Hope you enjoy your trip. I do envy anyone that gets the opportunity to travel espessialy over the distances that you get to go. I would just love to travel to Australia and New Zealand, but a poor O.A.P. well perhaps if I ever win the Lottery!!!! shame I don't do it eh... well only when it's obscene amounts of money!!!!!
Speak soon Dee and the girls
Thanks for you kind words. I'm happy when my photos are enjoyed!
I hope to get out more of old photos in my albums when time will allow it. I have photos from shows from 1982 and until now... so there's a lot to choose from :-)
See you in Sweden next month!?!
All the best, Kickie & the setters
What a lovely site and your dogs look great. Always a shame just to see them in photos and not in the flesh. I remember you judging here a few years ago, maybe if you return to the UK one day I will get to meet you. Many thanks for making me your friend.
Great to meet you too Myra!
Its always difficult for me at these shows, working all the time and in a constant rush. And this time it was four days in a trot.
Sorry you missed the stand we had at the show!
But you can check the bookcovers out on my website...at least some of them have setters on the cover! :-)
Hope you have a great time over here in Sweden and lets hope we meet up some other time...when hopefully I am not working constantly...
Oh I do envy you, sounds great, wish I was there......You are going on to judge are you not????
And yes I think that I would have felt the same, great film don't you just know everyone in it, in the real world????? Its a shame you are so close yet so far away.....when are you going to come back to Britain/Scotland?? Did you all get some sought of picture though that can be posted, the ''ES family'' would surely enjoy it....
We are just waiting for Saffy coming into season here, I think that she will be in too soon, I hope not, whatever happens we will hopefully have a great litter.
Dee and the girls...Will speak more later Dee
Im not very much in to showing Myra, so no Halland for me. Im more interested in working with my dogs and will just show them once or twice just to get some showresults as well.
But yes, no problem, I will do a drawing for you if you want.
Just let me know what you have in mind...
You can contact me on my private mail (also on my web-page). May be easier to discuss drawings etc that way.
I did do quite a lot of work for the Dog-world annual some years back before there was a change of editor. So you may have seen the drawings there as well.
Have a super time in Halland!
Perhaps one day we might be able to get over there!!!! I want to buy a motor home (when I get some money) in the future, so will just take off during the summer. It must have been great meeting all the different people from all round the world, how much longer are you staying??? You must still be in the ''air'' must be a big high..... have fun Dee and the girls
Great with all this sunshine over here!
At least that is what we have had since may this year down in the south.
Love it!!!!!!!!!!!
Just send an e-mail regarding drawing...:-)
Hi Sis,
well I survived the party...just! Roxy had 6 puppies the day before and the day before that I had 8 (at least) phone calls for Irish Setters. Children back to school tomorrow. All dogs (bar Brodie) slumped on the floor around me. Madam in season, Brodie banned.

Hi Myra! Nice to see you at the show in Halland! What a strange weather... Have never seen something like that. I hope you will have another great week in Sweden and a safe trip back. All the best Jenny
Good Morning too! The Japanese Akita went Best in Show, after judging had to finished in the Judges tent! It was a terrible storm with lightning, thunder and HAIL! Seemed like the marquee might blow away too, just like Blackpool. The Irish, "Don't Blame Me," won the group, with the Gordon second then the Portuguese Water Dog, Cocker and American Cocker.
Hope you had a good trip home,
M XXX
Hope you enjoyed your entry in Sweden. The Open Show was today and had an entry of 202 dogs. I have just got home from the evening barbi! it was good! I'm stewarding for Rita Bryden tomorrow so have a busy day ahead, the total entry is 396 dogs.
The catalogue for the champ show is available for sale on the ISAE website www.isae.co.uk It has the 3 generation pedigree of all the dogs entered for competition, so worth having! The KC exhibition catalogue was free to those visiting the Gallery, I'm not sure if they will send one to you but I'll check. The artist who did the 3 lifesize models is Rosemary Cook.
hello Myra, well, you'll be back soon to far-away australia. hope you had a wonderful time in sweden. how was the show today? good day again for the coppers-clan? :-)
Hi there Myra,
How are you doing? Hope you are not too tired on your 'vacation'. Just thought that you may be able to give me some 'inside info' There is a judge going on the Irish Circuit from Australia he is called Wong....Do you know anything about him??? if you do what sought of setter will he be looking for......hey I know that it is like saying 'my friend is living in Australia his name is Fred, do you know him' I know that it is a long shot but you may have heard of him, and yes I know that it is a big place, but could be somewhat smaller in the dog show world.....hope to chat later even if you haven't heard of him. Hello Myra
Thanks for your greetings. What lovely pictures of your dogs. I remember you judging at Bath a couple of years ago. The picture I have put on the site is of 'Copper', my first Irish Setter, Kargray Charity. She was born in 1970, by Raycroft Larry ex Brandy Brandus (who was by Sh Ch Wendover Vagabond).
Copper's descendants are still being shown in the UK today, though sadly not by me! I now have just 3 dogs - including my Coppersheen Cantilena (by Sh Ch Shenanagin Some Might Say it's Bardonhill ex Marksway Magic Flute at Coppersheen), and Ixia Giselle at Coppersheen (by Three Rivers from Kerryfair ex Ixia Isabella).
Anyway, thanks again for the welcome, and hopefully we will talk again in the future.
All the best, Sue
Hello Myra.
Thank you for your greeting :)
It is sometimes very cold here in the winter, but that is mostly in the mountains were we have our familys cabbin. Were we live it is a costal climate with up to 27 degrees C in the summer and down to - 8 degrees in the winter (but that is not very often). I guess that you have a much warmer climate down under :)
I can see that you have been in Sweeden judging? Wasn't it a Red &White winning the BIS?
Your dogs look beutifull, do you use them for hunting aswell?
Hello Myra
I spoke to the Gallery secretary at the Kennel Club, she is sending me a few of the exhibition catalogues, so I'll send one on to you soon. Today is the last day of the exhibition.
I have puppies at the moment, you can see a picture of them on my page!

Thanks for the welcome Myra! I am excited about this web-site. It certainly opens doors to other types and opinions concerning our setters. Judging form your biographical information, you have led an interesting life with a variety of dogs and a wealth of judging experience. I look forward to more visits with you...
