Nearly 7 years - but dreamed of owning them for 25 years
About Me:
I live in Perth, Western Australia, and have always had a passion for Irish Setters. It took me 30 years to get my first - and it was WELL worth the wait! Currently showing my Irish boy, and have just registered my breeding prefix, Anmadradh, with hopes of beginning my own kennel in the near future.

    WoooHooo!! Congratulations!
It is obviously meant to be, and sometimes these things are better if they are not planned.
I am sure you will both cope admirably, and the dogs will love another
    playmate.

Hi Melinda, your boy Fionn is lovely and reminds me of my boy Spencer! I still miss him.
Congratulations on all his winnings. He certainly is doing well.

Hi Melinda, No I never got your messages, but I did change my e-mail address about a year ago and I was having problems with my previous server, so they must have got lost in cyberspace!!
Clancy, my little boy is from Brodie (Carmel's boy) who is son of Myra's Swedish Import.
  • Cheryl Gorey

I'll see if I can post a couple of nice pics of Spencer, he was only 14 months old when I lost him.

Thank you, this site is amazing, love looking at all the dogs! Can see how it can become very addictive! Take care, Bev & the Gang! x

Thanks for the suggestion about a chair for Chase. Unfortunately for me, her forever mom came and got her just the other night. Although it would have been a pain to deal with her ailments, I will really miss her and her sister. They are in good hands, though as their new mom is a vet. By the way, your boy is a looker!

hi melinda read your comments on dees blog regarding the new eye problem that have appeared in irish setters.i hope you dont mind me writing but my girl was diagnosed with lopra in 2006 age 2 and 1/2 years.(late onset progressive retinal atrophy)this disease ends with the dog going totally blind within a few years of been diagnosed and there is no cure.she is hereditry clear of rod cone 1 pra and has herself been dna d and that was clear yet she still has ended up with this dreadful disease.this is why it is important to keep having your dogs eyes tested preferably on a yearly basis as it can crop up at anytime.dogs do adapt well to this condition its the owners that cannot.please read about it on the weband youll get an idea of what to look for .we only knew of our dogs plight when she went to stay at my daughters she became disorientated due to been in unfamiliar surroundings
  • lyn hathaway

melinda if you go onto irishsetter.org there is a list of results and classes that the dogs were in
  • Myra Thomas-Rhodes

    Hello Melinda,
Thankyou for your kind words about Lupin. The grief is still just under the surface, but nothing to do but move on.
I can lend you a copy of Rachel Page Elliott's book, if you would like. Let me know, and I can bring it to the next meeting.
  • Cheryl Gorey

    Hi Melinda
How is everything going over in WA. Hope all is well. How is that beautiful boy of yours? Love to hear any news.
My boy Clancy won Minor Puppy in Group on both days last weekend. Carolyn Pearen (IS Breeder/Judge) put him up on the Sunday. Carmel had told me that she liked her Brodie too!
Hope to hear from you soon
    cheers
    Cheryl
  • Cheryl Gorey

    Hi Melinda
Good to hear you are still having fun with him. Can't believe Fionn and his litter mates are 4 already. I think Terry and Wende would have been at the Sydney Royal yesterday for the Irish. I must touch base with them and see how they went.
Are you still planning to get a girl to go with your lovely boy and do some breeding?
    chat soon
    Happy Easter
    Cheryl
  • Cheryl Gorey

    Hi Melinda
I have seen 4 of Fionn's littermates (apart from my boy) 3 of the boys and also one of the girls, and a pic of a 5th. They are all lovely. I can send pics of a few of them if you wish (privately).
Yes, I know about Yoda as I was waiting for a bitch from her as well. The tragedy was just terrible.
I spoke with Terry in January/Feb, so not since then, but I must give them call soon.
    chat soon, Cheryl

Thank you for your complimentary comment on Storms photo. I have many more, but as they were taken before I had a digital camera, I don't know how to upload them onto the site. I had had this photo burned onto a CD for me, so it was easy to import and upload.
  • Jenny Ronnebro

Many thanks for the comment about Siofra! Greetings Jenny
  • ursula wilby

Thank you for the comment on Ninja...the horse! Our first ever foal, and its been great seeing her develope. So much MORE than dogs...but more to handle as well.
I stick to the paying, cleaning out of boxes and leave all the riding to my daughter!
  • Myra Thomas-Rhodes

Thanks Melinda.Aniara is still a little madam, and whatever makes you think she is spoilt!!!
Interestingly enough, she still sleeps upside down, like she is with "Scraps the Sewer Rat" stuffed toy. Only having the one puppy and photos, it is easy to keep a record of how they were then and now.
  • Myra Thomas-Rhodes

It's a tough life for them, isn't it?
It never ceases to amaze me just how much laughter and enjoyment they give us, in so many ways. It must be a very lonely existence for those who have never owned a dog.
Wonder what yours will make of the little one?
  • ursula wilby

Oh but you got off lightly Melinda...that muddy nose is nothing to what it could have been like...we have stiff clay-soil over here....:-)

    Hi there Melinda,
OMG what did you think that I was posting????? But thanks for the comment on the site, I know that I have a lot of hard work ahead, but have been waiting for these ''babies'' for so long now. Thanks again Dee and the girls
  • Dee Rance

Ah tell me about it only 41/2 weeks, so much to do and now and so little time to do it in, didn't want to say anything until it was confirmed, I have gone down that road before.
Just thought that I would try and do something different for the announcement and the pictures seemed to go with my kind of warped sense of hummer. And now it is all hell let loose to get everything ready. Oh well the puppies are in there, and they have got to come out, one way or another.
All the best and I woldn't mind a dirty weekend myself, but hey no hope of that, and maybe just too old now. Dee and the girls
