How many Irish Setters do you have?

How long have you owned Irish Setters?

About Me:
In my family we always had dogs (mainly german shepherd crosses). But I have never thought that I will be doing so many things with pedigree dogs. Everything began during holidays on lakes. I met Ruda - red irish girl - beautiful, friendly, polite, quiet and not barking at other dogs running along the fances what is typical for german shepherds and what I hate all my heart. I was delighted with Ruda's character.
A month later I had my own little irish girl - Bajka (On the Sunny Side of the Street z Arislandu). I admired her character even more. For me she still is a perfect setter. First of all beautiful, with so balanced character and an addition of so wonderful madness as only setters have:-)
Without any plans, slowly, life showed me next steps - first shows, field trials, dogotherapy, puppies (only once). That was the beginning of my kennel - Bajkowe Rudzielce (2000). I kept two Bajka's children: Kruszyna and Pielgrzym. Life with three setters is crazy but it is worth every effort.
I lost Pielgrzym in 2007 because of babeshia. Since autumn 2011 I have new little girl - Kasia of McBirdy;-). I thought I will be much longer with my three girls but soon enexpectedly I lost Kruszyna. And last spring I had to say goodbye my almost 15 yo Bajka.
So now I am again with one little red girl.

Love the bells below! White man's magic - how is it done?
Living with so many Setters is just wonderful! We also have about twelve Labradors. Everyone just lives in harmony, and to see the adults playing so gently with little puppies, is an absolute joy.
Pickles, the Selkirk Rex cat, has a super personality, and the dogs all respect him. Consequently he takes advantage sometimes, and enjoys his feelings of superiority!
It is a very happy household, here at Amhurst, and we all enjoy the lifestyle.

Thanks Anna for your comments of my photo's. So nice of you to look through them. The one I called 'sisters' is my very favourite. It catches their expressions so perfectly. My two girls are both aged 6yrs. now. We got them as baby puppies together, and they have been inseparable ever since. Couldn't decide between the two breeds, so we got both. I've had Irish before, but not 'English'. They are both very quiet girls (which is nice).

Lynn, Tess (Irish) and Megg (English) from Oz.

Thank you Anna for you comment on my video. My boys don't have many 'tricks'... the will sit up (begging), crawl, silly stuff like that.. Mostly we are working on obedience. But they do enjoy the few tricks that they do.... they are such clowns, they love to show off!!
  • Joan Clancy

Hi Anna, yes I am familiar with clicker-training, it is quite popular in USA. I even have a few 'clickers' laying around my house, but never quite got into using them. I guess I'm harder to retrain than my dogs are!! It sounds like you got great results using it!!

Thank you very much for your kind comments on my photos Anna.
But there is no secret! I work with a Nikon camera and a zoom linse Nikkor 55-200mm ED. I think the brightness is the result from the absolutly low relative humidity in the air that we have here in Engadin. The color saturation are perfect in this air :-)))
All the best for 2009, love Esther

My też trochę ćwiczymy.

Anna, the photo-blogg is a comment in regards to the VERY heated discussion of people not wanting to see setters with "dead animals" in their mouths.
Well that was part of the discussion it also branched off in to different directions...you will have plenty to read if you are interested! :-)
  • Kristina Brannlund Westin

    Thank´s for commenting my photo!
When they are so many as six dogs there is always a racing-competiton between them. Mostly Tito is number one and he usually comes back after some hundred meters.

    Greetings, Kristina

    Hi Anna!

Thank´s for your nice comments on my photos. It thruelly is a lovely winter this year and we enjoy it. A little cold but it never bother the dogs, and I can put a lot of clothes on, so no excuse for not walking with the dogs.
So you maked the album, aha!!
    Well done!

    Greetings Kristina
  • Drago and Beata

Witam serdecznie! Poprzedniego Sonego miałam 11 lat do maja ub.r. Miał 6,5 tyg słodziak mały gdy go prezywiozłam z Torunia do Warszawy. Serdecznie pozdrawiam i troszke sie rozpisałam. Beata i Draguś

  • Ulla Carnemyr (Oinas)

Brave woman? No, its only normally för me to be in the nature. I have lots of experiance from the time when i have horses and did some horsebackriding around the area. The most fantastic moment was when I was riding with my friend and did a meeting with a big moose 5 meters beyond a big stone. .
  • Ulla Carnemyr (Oinas)

That´s is why we moved from the city to coutryside. It´s much better for the dogs and our children. We have clean air and water. You can if you wish drink water from the small river.
  • Annie Cheron

Merci pour cette gentille attention ... Ton français est parfait ... Si j'étais aussi douée en anglais !

  • Laura Kolbach

hi Anna, thanks for your comments. The photo was taken halv-time during the walk, but I think, the 6 setters (out of 13) that knew sit-and-stay would have also done it before the walk! verrrrrrrrrrry obedient :-)))

  • Carmel Murphy

Thanks for the correction Anna!! I keep making that mistake!(those grey hairs again!) But you all know who I mean!;o))
  • Carmel Murphy

Thanks for that lovely story! Perhaps I saw Kasia as an elegant Kazia!!? I admire anyone who learns the English language, as it is so difficult(so many irregular rules!!) English is my only language(I only have a little Irish and Italian-very,very little!) I notice many people use US spellings a lot-example-neighbor instead of neighbour!!;o)) I think I would find the Polish language difficult to learn! I asked Kasia to pronounce a Polish name(Zbyszek) and I still cant say it correctly!!!! I am very bad at other languages!!!
  • Carmel Murphy

Glad you liked the photo of the three dogs and mountains!! And the fireplace photo was a Christmas card(on Seterkowo site) but I dont remember which year!!!!!

    Hi Anna
Unfortunately I have to say that amber collar is most beautiful.
It was not especially large effect, on Filippa makes it a little effect, but in several other dogs seen no effect at all. Very many are interested, and next week I get mail address to the girl I bought it from.

    Hello Bajka!
I am having a realy bad time finding stuff to eat in the kitchen...I am told not to jump up on the counter...and I dont (I was 2008 years best obedience-setter so I have my reputation to think of).
And there are nothing but crumbs laying on the floor...:-(
    No wonder I am depressed...
