Thank you so much Rosie, Bailey makes me laugh because he sits while we dressed him in costumes. It makes me wonder who enjoys it more, me or the dog.

Hi Rosi thanks for sending your messages. You are right - Bailey does like to get his picture taken. I have been taking pictures and getting him to pose from the beginning. His breeder thinks he is the most photographed Irish Setter. She could be right.

As for the chewing you have got that for a while yet, until he gets his adult teeth perhaps... as for his testicles they can cause a problem, you were really lucky with your first boy if his didn't cause any problem, The vet will recommend castration no doubt, but it still may appear...they often do. Sooner or later..
Tinned Chum can be very rich you mentioned before a milky meal, I was told of for giving anything other than the Junior food, apparently it causes a 'balanced' diet to become unbalanced. But it is up to you.

Congrats on your new puppy. I always made sure my boy had healthy things to chew. Bones, bully sticks, cow or bison hoofs. We kept an abundant supply around the house and to this day he has never chewed anything that he is not suppose to. He does eat sticks and branches outside. I have tried to teach him not to eat sticks with a firm "Leave it!" command but we have not mastered that yet. From the time he was about 6 months old we could leave him in the house unsupervised. He would terrorize the toilet paper but I think that was because there was paper in his welping box.

We had a hard time with establishing dominence because Bailey was so strong willed. We did not want to break his spirit but we kept on it and now he is such a gentle boy.
We initially kennel trained him and then we picked him up and took him outside to do his business. With this we only had 3 accidents in the house and all 3 was our fault for not paying attention.

Our breeder (the best in the world) recommended we feed him low protein adult food. It is important that the bones grows slowly. This will prevent joint problems in the future. I have learned so much from our breeder. Thank heavens she just didn't hand him over and forget about us.

As you know lots of play time is important. The only way to maintain sanity is to keep him in a constant state of fatigue. Walks is also fun. My Bailey was so difficult to walk on a lead. To this day we struggle with that. He is better on the way home after he had finished his business. Getting there is a serious ugency on the ultimate place to pee and poop. After that he can get on with listening with less interuption. Maybe that is normal.

I am so pleased you named him Bailey. Bailey is an Irish Name but it is also a yummy drink. All for now. Enjoy your puppy. Keep us posted and send pictures.

Rosie - our Bailey got HOD after getting his Rabies shot. There is some evidence that getting the rabie shot early could be one of the causes of HOD. Wait till he is at least a year. Discuss it with your vet. Bailey is Clemson University's (USA) Golden Boy. They are doing a study around that theory. We have given DNA and just submitted another blood test a few months back. Have you heard of HOD? Make sure you read up on it. It affects Irish Setters. On my history hear I have included the history of this disease as Bailey got it real bad. It nearly broke our hearts but his treatment was 100% successful. Luckily our breeder knew exactly what to do and was able to direct our vet.

Mine all went with their first jags, they had theirs at 7 weeks and then again at 11 weeks, my 'mob' will be gone next weekend, but I will still have Findlay, so it would still be nice to see you both. Oh dear, poor wee thing, If he is vomiting worms that means he has a huge worm burden absolutely despicable, they should be wormed at three weeks and then every two weeks after that, I have however missed one of the worming because of the vaccines etc that the puppies had to have, but they were done at an early age, you can usually tell by their coat condition, it tends to be a bit dry and lifeless, (can't wait to talk to you)...All the best and hope to speak..... really soon.... They are great at that age. Our guy loves the snow to. He makes me laugh every day.
