How many Irish Setters do you have?
3 setters at the moment
How long have you owned Irish Setters?
I bought my first setter in 1975, I lived in England at the time and he was from pure Wendover lines. I have never been without irish setters since.
About Me:
I breed and show (as few shows as I can get away with to be perfectly honest). My main interest is obedience work. I have always worked with my dogs and have got three irish setter obedience champions in a row (FCI-rules). Meaning grandmother, mother and daughter. One of the dogs I also made up to be a certified armydog for the swedish army. Just to prove it could be done...but I have to admit that after all this, I am running out of steam and seriously considering a bordercollie so that I can compete on an equal level. But I may still change my mind. I have owned (and mostly worked) a number of breeds, among them german shepards, a poodle, bloodhounds, an english setter, pugs and now half a french bulldog. My daughter ownes the other 50%. (Mine is the cute half in case you were wondering.)
Workwise I write and draw for the swedish kennel club magazine plus write/illustrate books about dogs/cats and one about horses and work as an illustrator for newspapers, magazines and just about anything else you can think of.

MVH

    Dear Ursula,
I had no replies from you for a few days and I just checked the inbox function. It doesn't work now.
So if you answered, sorry, I didn't receive it!:(

    Hej Ursula!

    Mvh

Thanks Ursula for the comment I think that it is much better with the two rings they seem to go to the same ring, and the same puppies at the same ring as well.. they are now outside it isn't raining constantly or really cold at the moment, so life is a little bit easier, but my granddaughter is now being potty trained, thought about putting her in with the puppies so only one place for all the pee...just joking...pell perhaps not...Dee and the gang

Thanks for Birthday greetings!! No real sunshine but felt sunny anyway!;o))
  • Dee Rance

Well, when the last of the puppies goes on Saturday, I will be able to treat him as a family member instead of just a naughty puppy, so will be looking forward to that, he is, like the other two really sweet they just run a muck through everything, he is growing well, (I still think that Tania had the best one though), I just fell in love with Findlay when he was a 'tiny sausage' will hopefully get some pictures at the weekend, when there is someone else to take them, I go near with a camera and all I get are blurred noses and tails. Just not good at taking photos.
I was wondering last night how your baby was going, I also envy you walking on the beach this morning, I would love to do that, only got woods here, and Fin hasn't had the pleasure of a long walk yet, give him another two or three months....
  • Carmel Murphy

Oh I know the feeling about photos!! Bet yours isnt that bad????
  • Myra Thomas-Rhodes

I understand your thoughts, Ursula. I very rarely show, in fact haven't done a lot for years. Same reason. Too much to do here, and with other things in life, to be sitting around at a show WAITING!! As a judge, I prefer to get on with the judging, so that people aren't waiting whilst the lunch break takes place. Your system is better, where the judge is allowed to go through if they prefer, whereas here, we have to break at a certain time. I think the dogs and the exhibitors come first, and the judge is fulfilling a job.
  • Myra Thomas-Rhodes

Well, at least Rusa won so well, after such a terribly long wait. Sometimes it is a long wait with nothing to show for it.
    Aaaaghhhhh! Such is dog showing!
  • Dee Rance

I am just glad that they have got really good homes, They are coming your way, well got you surrounded, I thought that I had killed them with their rabies shots, they were so sick, poor wee things.
It has been absolutely tiddling down here for the past two days, and boy is it cold, heavy frosts over the past couple of day too. Thought it would be a bad winter this year, Geese, they don't usually get here until about three weeks after they did this year..I know what you mean about the wind and the wood. I have been to the beach when you had such high waves it was scary, but always thought that it was so very beautiful.
  • Dee Rance

Ah not Sweden...Poland well to me its nearer you than me...so not that close.
How do you see the big waves from indoors???? I would love to live that close to the sea...I would spend every day there.
You must be so thrilled at the win that your baby had, she must have been under six months..we can't show ours until they are over six months, my baby has his first show on the 6th February, and then its a case of hitting the floor running, there are a lot of shows one after the other, some I will have to find someone else to show him, but will still be going, I at least have a friend that can share the car with, cuts the petrol/diesel costs, and mileage on the car, and someone to keep you awake while driving!!!
  • Dee Rance

I know that we are not supposed to envy others but hey I would love to live by the sea,
Sorry about saying near to you, but as I said Poland is a lot nearer you than me, and I have never been there or am likely to ever go there, but she was a recommendation so don't want give away a good home, I really hope that she will be happy with her wee boy, my boy is called Findlay he has been my favourite from the word go, may not be the pick of the litter but he is really sweet. And I will be doing more with him than just showing, I think he has got brains as well as beauty.
Have a great time in Florida never been there myself, well never been most places, only Crete and a few parts of Spain, really boring but nice and worm..
  • Dee Rance

Findlay is a combination of a couple of things..I was going to call him Findley but one of the people that have helped, (she did all my 'puppy pack' printing for me). Her surname is Findlay and the puppies were borne on her birthday. So it had to be with an A rather than an E, well that is as clear as mud....eh...
Envy is definitely my feeling to where you live, it sounds wonderful, I have never been to anywhere other than the two places that I mentioned. When I get my Mobile home 'thinggy' I will be just packing up the 'kids' and going off to travel Europe, I can't wait, but will have to until I get the money for the Mobile home, probably never get enough, so it is all wishful thinking, but hey I can dream, I couldn't go to the US because I will not be able to get anyone to look after the 'kids'. I am also with you re the snow and wind etc, but I do miss an open fire, so cosy when it is blowing a hooley outside. Again one day, I will get that back too... though I don't like the mess an open fire creates. Ah well you can't have everything eh??? Dee and the gang
  • Dee Rance

I am even more envious of you, Cast iron wood burning stove and the sea close by...even with the mess. As for the Motorhome it has been a dream of mine for a few years now. I dare say I will have to get used to it as for parking etc, but lets face it I should be able to do it, it will be smaller than a bus...
As for putting the dogs in kennels I can't do that at the moment Jas bloated last time I put her in a kennel so that will never happen while she is alive, just can't take the risk. She is too precious to me, I would never forgive myself if anything happened to her while I was away enjoying myself, I will either take her with me or not go at all, my dad thinks that I am quite mad, perhaps he is rite. Ah well there you go...
The weather here is drech (wet, cold and miserable) All the best Dee and the gang
  • Myra Thomas-Rhodes

Lucky you in Florida! Grey days ahead I guess as Sweden goes in to Winter, but such a special time of the year, Christmas and snow.
Yes, the garden photos were taken just a few days ago. We will gradually get hotter, and the light during the day far more intense. Cannot say I enjoy the Summer months patricularly, but having said that, I know the bright days do make for a happeir mind-set, rather than dark dismal days.
You will just have stay indoors and sketch those wonderful drawings you keep coming up with.
    Love and Hugs,
    M XXX

  • Jo Ottinger

Horses have such strong personalities. I have had Mousse for 19 years and she has been the shoulder I go to cry on when I need to be away from everyone else. The memories you have of Ivy will help with the pain of loosing her. She is no longer in pain and I am sure she knew how much you loved her.
  • Carmel Murphy

It is so hard to see a big animal die! I had to hold my old boy "Gonzo"(30yrs old!!) last winter while he was put down (hardest thing I ever had to do in my life!) Perhaps the little filly needs a name now?;o)
  • Carmel Murphy

I think their size, but also how long they live and the long wait for their birth(compared to dogs and cats) has a lot to do with the shock when they go!! And they are so strong and majestic compared to other animals!! Look forward to the foals new name(simple or majestic!!) and hope she gets to be with the other foal soon!!
  • Leonor Ferreira

    Thank you Ursula!
I'm going to prepare a special dinner for me and the girls :-)

  • Jeanette Lilja

    Hej,

  • Dee Rance

    Hi there Ursula
I know what you mean..it makes it doubly hard when a) you loose your beloved animal and b) you just don't have the money to pay for it. I can only imagine how large the bill was, and then probably double it. You do what you can, and prey that all goes well. I am so sorry that it went the wrong way for you...I won't ask how you are coping, I can guess, but how is the foal doing, she must be almost at weaning age, I do hope all goes well for her. I just wish I could help, in any way, but am helpless too. I know my thoughts can't help but they are with you and yours, All the best Dee and the gang
  • Dee Rance

OMG When we insure here we have an excess, of, I think on horses, probably about 20% of the bill, and when that is paid, that is the end of it. but I didn't even think of that much, I was probably thinking of 3/4 of that, for the whole bill. If I win the Lottery it will be paid, (unfortunately I wouldn't hold my breath), but if......you will have the money...Dee and the gang

    Hej Ursula!
    jul.

  • Cheryl Gorey

Hi Ursula, yes I understand what you mean. I lost one of our horses at a young age after she took fright and kicked out and hit the windmill. Consequently fractured her hind leg. Even though we never rode her, she had to be put down. We do see them as such strong animals, but I guess every species has their weaknesses. I hope Ivy's foal is giving you much joy.
  • Dee Rance

Thanks so much for the BDay greetings, I am going to start to go backwards now...and I think I will jump a few years..maybe start at 55 what do you think...
  • Lise-Lotte Persson

  • Dee Rance

I don't think that my back will take any more of the Bus thing again, I think that maybe, now that you have pointed that out, I should just alternate between 50 and 60 Then I don't have to do the driving thing, was already assaulted by then so was retired from the job by the time I was 50 so that will be good, and then I don't have to get any damned well older. (not good English but you will know what I mean) It should be banned, old age that is...
  • Thomas Amport

    Hello Ursula,

nice picture of your garden. Well, yes I have my own computer. Is there someone out there today, who can live without? :-)
