    Hi Tammy,
My Irish Setters were very sensitive and easy to correct. Harsh methods of yelling and forcing were never needed to correct problems. Gentle words and laughing with lots of praise work very well. If I saw the behavior I want I would highly praise and tell my dog what a "good" dog she is. This worked every time. You need to reward the dog when she comes to you. Never let her think something bad will happen when she comes to you. This is very important. Best wishes, Judi

    Tammy,
I think it is good to touch your dogs everyday. All over, the paws, under their arms to check for burrs and get the dogs used to being touched all over. My Irish needed her nails trimmed every month or they would get too long and it could hurt to walk on our tiled floor. The hair on her chest needed grooming every two months. I had my dog groomed every 6 months and I combed and trimmed her between times. I will take a puppy into my shower every week to get her used to water and being cleaned.
I'm sure there are many other people on this site that know more than I do about grooming. I do have a dog
tooth brush and check her teeth often. I look forward to hearing more about your dogs. Best, Judi
