What's the most surprising thing your dog does?

My girls sleep in my bed, on top of my blankets. They generally go to sleep before I do, so when I get to bed I need to push dogs around to get my little bit of bed =)

Last week I was on a break between semesters, so I was going to bed a bit later than I normally do. On the second day, Pitanga appeared in the living room, grabbed me and pushed me into my bedroom. Then, she jumped on the bed, "digged" my bed until the blankets were on the side and then pushed my pillow into my usual bed space. After this, she looked at me until I got in bed, not believing this had happend... except the next day she did it again, and the other day, and the other, and every day until last night! So now I have a bed-oppener dog - It's like living in a hotel, except the maid loves you and sleeps in your bed every night! =)

Pitanga's list currently has opening doors, putting wood in the fireplace when she's cold and there is no fire and bed opening!

Romã is just now starting to show interest in the amazing things her imagination may come up with so for now its just taking my dirty socks into the laundry basket - very handy, but not my idea at all =)

I was wondering what are the remarcable things your dogs do that you have no idea how they came up with.

Dogs never fail to amaze me but Pitanga's actions are remarkable.

I had a setter called William. One night he woke me up by barking and scratching at me as I slept.I got up thinking he wanted to go out.He led the way downstairs and then sat in the kitchen  barking and looking at the ceiling.I thought he had flipped, but I looked too and the ceiling rose was on fire. For some reason there was a short and the flames were inside the rose.I think he saved my family and the house that night. He must have responded very quickly as there was no smell and the fire hadn't caught hold properly.William slept on our bed.How did he know?

Molly gave us a nice surprise today....last night we had really strong winds along with thunderstorms here..and it took out three sections of our 6 foot wooden fence.  This AM Molly went out and stalked over to the fence....sniffed up and down the fallen part and decided she should visit the neighbors...her two play buddies live there....we called her back and told her to stay in our yard and shook a finger at her and are delighted to report that she goes out...gazes over into their yard but has not gone back over.   They come visit her but she will not follow them home....stops right at the edge of the fence and sits and waits for them to come back to play in our yard.  Nice to know we finally have a IS that listens to us even when she is out in yard alone!
And some people say setters are daft, lovely story!!
Last summer we played in the garden with a small ball on a string. She finally learned to apport and loved showing it to the neighbours-kids. Somehowe at a certain moment the ball was gone. We looked everywhere, no string-ball found. A few months later Hoshiko was running around our tree, barking and making funny sounds. I looked up, thinking there was a cat our a bird hiding up there. It was the ball, it was hanging there high above. She remembered  and recogniced it. I had to
set up the ladder to reach out of for it. She was so happy she found it back after several months.

I think you should,what a clever dog!

I got up this morning to find Arthur had raided my wife's box where she keeps things she uses in her art work.Nothing was damaged and everything retrievable but where is my cordless electric drill? I had left it out ready to put in my workshop and forgotten about it.It has vanished!Probably in the same, yet unfound place, where my two shoes are!

oh, I'm sure your drill is either too noisy or that Arthur thinks he can do a better job!

As for your shoes, I see two options: He doesn't like the way you look on them or he doesn't want you to leave your home in them for some reason =)

Romã had a thing for my shoes - mine only! but she hasn't taken one in a while now.

Our lives just wouldn't be the same without the surprises our setters prepare for us everyday =)

That is so true,  it is a a surprise a day where Arthur is concerned!

I am pleased to say I have found my drill and ,apart from a few teeth marks,it is ok and, more to the point so is Arthur.

I hadn' thought that Clancy had been blessed with any particaular talent until a few days ago my eldest son shouted for me to come and see what he was doing. There he was in the garden, his two front paws on a skateboard pushing himself along with his back legs. He has since done more skateboarding, I am now waiting for him to get enough speed up to ride with all four feet on the board! I wouln't put anything past him now.

wow!

Well, when he does get his four feet on the board (or even now!) please get a video! I'm sure I'm not the only one curious to see a skateboarding setter! =)
