Giving puppy lunch not from a ball, but from toys. Make her "work" for it. is it a good idea?

We are leaving Amber at home alone for short periods of time now. Always in a crate and with her favorite Kong. I am trying to have stuffed toys for her even when she is in her ex-pen. My dad or my husband usually watching her during workdays and letting her outside and playing with her a little during the day. Is it a good idea to have lots of treat dispensing toys for her when she is left alone. I’ve read in a book that it’s good to provide a meal from toys, so dog is busy getting food out. And also happy. For now we have Kong, Orb ball, “Bob a lot” and a rubber ball with treats inside. May be I should stuff them all with treats and give to her. So when she is by herself she can get all food out and it’s going to be her lunch. Then a question – since I am feeding her “Solid Gold”. Kibbles are large size. If I want to use a treat dispensing toy and put her lunch inside – can I use another food brand with small kibble. It would be mixing two different food brands. Can I do that?
anything that challenges her is a good thing.
I just got more Kongs on e-bay. I was so excited yesterday! I would love to have multiple once for Amber to be busy during time when she is by herself. As I already mentioned - I fill Kongs with puppy food from a can (it's almost like a paste). Can I still use puppy can food or it's time to stop completely? I don't put much in - may be 2 teaspoons. Is anyone else having a better idea what to put in?
Is anyone of you replacing a meal with treat dispensing toys?
I would use adult food Inna - something more solid like Evangers. You can also put a milk bone treat in them and it takes them a long time to get them out - altho some are pretty quick :)

As far as using 2 food - yes you can do this as long as you mix them together and watch the protein count - Ideally I don't feed puppies anything over 22% before they are 9 months old I know some breeders will go to 24% but with the HOD present in one of the puppies I would watch protein very carefully.

Kibby gets about 4 Tablespoons of canned food a day on 2 of his meals - dinner he either gets fresh cooked chicken or ground round.
Hope this helps
I need to read more what it says on a bag.
Thank you Kim – I’ll pay more attention from now on.
