this is ruby my setter who died and her mate bindi a springer spaniel checking her out a week before she passed on

just getting used to this site chantal. great.  I am looking for a red setter now if anyone can help, cant live without one.Ruby was a poor wee girl that was tied in a shed and was told later that the owner was going to shoot her as she was running away,  No wonder I thought, so I took her and brought her to the local vet and got her checked out.  She was about 4 years at the time and I have had her now for 15 years.  She was such a lovely girl with such lovely eyes and I still cry for her even now talking about her.  Please that her spirit will come back again to me in another, thats why I am looking for a pup now if anyone can help to guide me on where to purchase one.

I would have my new setter for agricultural shows only and the beach which ruby loved.

Hi Kate,

What a very sad story, I am so glad you have rescued Ruby and offered her so many happy years of joy and happiness!!!! Kate do I understand you properly? What does "having your new setter for agricultural shows" means? that you would prefer to have a field trial Irish setter as opposed to a show dog? That you would want to show your dog, not only being a pet owner?  Would you consider another rescue dog too? Sorry for all the questions, just to make sure I understood you properly.

Chantal, it just means that I am not into strictly crufts shows, as I enjoy going to the agricultural shows outdoors where the dogs can enjoy  and outside and so can i and later go to the beach.  We have local agricultural shows where you have  sheep, cattle etc and also a dog show.  Its great to go to these as we meet up with a lot of people once a year and the dogs wins their prizes etc but nothing to serious as I say, just mostly for time out at weekends.  I live in Co. Sligo ireland with the ox mountains behind us.  Lovely place of my 4 legged friends.

I would sooner start from a  pup because I did not get the chance to do that with ruby.

Although I had no papers for ruby, she won a big show 10 years ago in ireland.  The gordon setter has papers and she wins a few but I used always say to ruby "you are the best" and she knew it.  She could really stand well and just loved showing herself.

I wanted to say what a nice part of Ireland you are living in ... although honestly everywhere it is so beautiful on this island!!!! a real treat and delight. I do agree with you about the fun and pleasure visiting local agricultural shows, and I am sure that you will agree with me when I say that our beloved Irish setters are giving us fun, pleasure and love every second of their lives.... Couldn't live without an Irish setter anymore, so I do understand your need to get one soon.

On this picture, the front one, my oldy MC, field trial, both parents are champions, great pedigree coming from the Moanroad line. This dog was really special and so clever!!!!! unfortunately I lost him last year, a couple of days before his 14th birthday. The young pup - Darwin (almost 7 years old now) is a show dog, Thendara line. My MC would have loved to go hunting with your husband and to go with you on the beach .... my Darwin would love to go on the beach with you, but not really hunting with your husband ... he cannot go out without his rugby ball, he is a sniffer and a digger, happy to play alone and a real angel !!!! Some dogs are good at everything, shows and hunting, I guess my young pup will be this type, but only 3.5 months right now so hard to tell. What I can tell you though, is that there are puppies and puppies, right now I have a real devil and I cannot wait until he is at least 6 months old ... really tired of having his teeth on my flesh  ...

A lot of people that I know who can advise you best, are all doing the Munster circuit right now, hope you can wait a week? The advantage of having this discussion open is that I am sure some will contact you very soon.
