It looks like we need to come and visit you for snow this year Susan.  Beautiful pictures.  Just out of interest, how do you keep their paws from clogging up with little snowballs?  My guys got really upset by them last year.

It has been a weird winter so far in Switzerland, first no snow, then loads in the mounatins but still no snow in the lower regions where we live. Fortunately it is just 1.5 hours' drive for us to the mountains and so we get to enjoy the day out. I trim the dog's feet very short and if the snow is dry powder snow like on this cold but sunny day, they hardly suffer any problems. It is the cloggy snow that is a real problem. It also depends on the type of coat the dog has. Fluffy coats are terrible. Here the only problem was after almost 3 hours when ice began to form in the centre of the paws due to moisture freezing and then the dogs licking their paws - this only made things worse. So after three hours it was time to get back to the warmth.

So beautiful! I also trim the feet very short but I also got a silicon spray for medical use at the vet - it was much better with than without.
