Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World
For the record, these pictures were taken in okt. 2004.
Cara went to the 'dogs-heaven' in april 2008 at the age of 13 :(
She was my True-Love, with an 'not so easy character' , but very Irish.
I am so sorry to hear that Cara is only living in your heart now, and glad that you put her picture on this site. Since last May I am living a similar experience, but do not have yet your courage. All my pictures are from my belove MC and dating from 14 years ago...
The description of Cara as not so easy character is the description I would say from my MC, what is her line and pedigree? any Monroad blood by any chance?
Oh that's ok. She'll stay in my heart for ever, she had a very good life with us. She came in our family at 14 weeks. She was very on her own ... wouldn't eat, play, ... we gave it a few days, then the worrying became.
We had to let her operate. Here in Belgium the vet checked her blood and other. Then after cutting her open, he told us, she had a 'liver-shunt', ready to let her go asleep ! Could not believe it, I had that strange feeling ... A second diagnose from a vet in Holland found out what was wrong: hernia diafragmatica from birth. That was the reason she wouldn't eat... her stomach was pressed in that hole .... Another operation. At that time she was already 11 months old, so not much opportunity for a good socialized and 'well-behave' education...
After the recup. period she showed a kind of "autism". So that made her strange behavior ...
But no hard feelings, she was my princess ... :)
Your Princess Cara had quite her share in life!!!! so happy you have followed your instinct and had a second opinion.... funny she was diagnose with a liver shunt, it is what they told me about Darwin ... last year he was diagnosed with an internal (intrahepatic) portosystemic liver shunt... and nothing to do beside a diete and hopes.
The kind of "autism" is very interesting, very sorry for Cara but it looks they are closer to us than some would like to believe. I am sure Cara was your beloved Princess and you have shared a very special relationship.
Many thanks for taking the time to explain Cara's problems to me, and congratulations, you were a really good Mum to her!
