I see hubby was leaving you and Joy to face the danger head on;o))

He was actually right behind me taking the photo. But he should have rather taken a video camera, because the next moment Joy went down on her front paws and barked at the young cows and bulls (there were about five more to my left side, by the way), trying to involve them in play...

How did you get into that tight spot in the first place? I've had some pretty scary experiences with dogs and cattle...

I'm standing on the official hiking trail going up in front of me when the curious animals came closer and I realized that some of them were male. I could have gone back but then decided to take Joy over to my right side, streched out my left arm and signaled 'stop' while shoutig a 'NO' at them and walking up the hill quite resolutely. They took their distance! Honestly, I believe cows with young calves would have been the real danger.

I once wanted to hike in Yellowstone Park (without dogs!) - the official path lead through a herd of Buffalo... we decided maybe this wasn't a good idea...

I agree! We did the same thing with a heard of Haflinger horses in the Dolomites once (also without a dog).
