I think Mac wants you to find your own cool spot, first in best dressed!

Yes.  My niece says he looks like he uses eyeliner!!!!!

Is he a field Setter - my Maggie has a very similar look and she is the field variety - I just love her to pieces as I do the rest of my dogs.

I would not be that familiar with the differences there.  I don't think I have seen a field variety.  However, having looked at your photos of Maggie, I would say he is a bigger variety, with a lot more fringes, like the conventional setter that I know!!!   Excuse my ignorance - but I am not familiar with more than one variety.    Your pups are gorgeous!!!!

He certainly is a handsome fellow.  I was introduced to the field or red setter back in the early 90 s

- they are much smaller than the true IS - 50 lbs is pretty std, much smaller in stature, not as many

feathers and supposedly they were bred down to hunt easier through the brush - I think they are

a little more full of it - very flighty compared to the true IS - more birdy influenced if I can put it

that way - very loving and very smart too.  I couldn t see from the picture of Mac just how large

or how many feathers he has but he is gorgeous and I hope you did not take offense when I

asked that question - because he is gorgeous- just could not see how large he is - my Brody

is 81 pounds - just had him at the vet last week - he is a full Irish.  Maggie s mom and dad

were full Irish but she is much smaller and way less feathers so somewhere she must

have a Field relative in her background - she might weigh 40 pounds!  She is very tiny

in her stature - she loves to snuggle next to me in the evening on the couch and loves

to please as they all do.

No, please  - no offense at all.  I got my Mac as my third setter in my life.  My first I inherited from my father-in-law who always had reds, and passed on his love of them to me.   He was very tall and (as I describe it) a square head and very handsome!!  Lots of fringes.   My second, my pride and joy, was a White and Red setter, which I got when I was looking for a Red from the breeders and could not find one.  One breeder offered the Red and White, and I never regretted it.  He was adorable, and so loyal and protective of me when my husband passed away, and lived to be 13 himself.  I had to say goodbye to him last year, and it nearly broke my heart.    Therefore, Mac is my new Red - and when I was looking, again I was looking for the big, strong, square head variety - with the fringes.   That's the only reason I say this, and had no reason to take offense.   I appreciate your comments, and can assure you that no matter what dog came into my view, of any breed, I would think it was adorable!!  Good luck with your boys and girls.
