- About Me:
- We have been living together with Setters for about 15 years and have never ever regretted that decision.
Every day we are out with the dogs in the nearby woods, sometimes riding on horseback (my husband jogging with the dogs), walking along the pastures of the river Elbe, going swimming, riding our bikes or going skating. On rainy days the lazy dogs are scrawling on our sofas and sometimes risk a look out of the terrace door.
Amy always makes us get a move on. Summer instead lives up to her name "Sangarah Composure".
By the way, we have also got a Turkish mix called Miss Marple.
We are no passionate dog show competitors but like to present the lovely bitches from time to time to support and make our breeders known in our area.

A runaway
Has anyone been desperate, broken-hearted, hopeless, scared, miserable ... at the same time? This is how I felt last Sunday. We walked our three dogs in the nearby forest on a sunny and bright autumn day when the youngest setter girl 'Summer' (8 months) suddenly disappeared in a forest plantation area chasing deer. First we thought:"Ok, let us wait a bit, she is a hunting dog and finds her way back easily." We did not move, waited, whistled, shouted her name - but nothing happened. After 30 min.… Continue

- kann ich mir vorstellen! Odin war nie eine, die abhaut, aber mit Danka hatte ich meine Probleme, aber sie verschwand nur für max 10 minuten oder so - auf und davon nach dem Hasen. heute hetzt sie gar nicht mehr. das wird auch mit amy und summer besser! zeit...

of course very young setter is unpredictable, lively, disobedient.
I love this crazy temperament. During first 3 years I release my dogs from leach only in out of the way places. Along the street they are going always on a lead, but I'm training their obedience with loud commends and wistle till they remember that's entering a street is forbiden. On a zebra (even now) I always stop, having green light as well - Im waiting next turn.
My dogs aren't angels, f.e. we have friends with airdale terrier - she is the best friend of my dogs - seeing Kika they remember nothing, any command. Once Bajka felt Kika walked one minute aerlier - she started running, crossed the street, enjoyed Kika, after that she remembered her misdeed and .... came back to me - crossing the street second time. Thanks God, it was sunday morning and no trafic.
During a walk in countryside, on meadows, when they run free, I wistle or call them and show a direction by hand. There is no need they approach to me, they shoud look my way. They must know the way I go.
And of course everyting depends on temperament of dog - Kruszyna is very obedient and smart, wise. Bajka on the contrary - she would like to do what she wants. Last years she is retired (12,5 now) and I let her be free.
Now all the time I'm walking with my dogs without leach but they are very mature yet:))))
Having puppy - work starts again.

Hoffentlich keine Albträume mehr nach dem 'Summer adventure'...
Unterwegs mit den Hunden, ist das meine grösste Angst. Deshalb ist mir die Hundeerziehung so wichtig, aber v.a. bei jungen Hunden besteht immer ein Risko.
Zum Glück ist alles gut gegangen:-))

from that time I prefer not going for walk with to many peoples - first of all we are interested in gossiping, bla bla bla, and dogs run free nobody knows where. I practiced many times - when I am alone with my dogs (I had 3 two years ago) I'm focused on them - and everything is OK.
To sum up, that day was really happy. Kruszyna knew way home but she must have crossed the street. I have thaught my dogs not to enter a street without stopping and my permission. SO she was sitting at a crossroad and squaeking. Fortunatelly my family lives next to me and they were going back home at the moment. My nephew noticed her and was a bit surprised what was she doing there. He braught her to my apartment.
Fortunately you didnt lose your Summer. I know that dogs are going back to the place where they last time have seen their owner. Very often there are our mistakes not dogs.From that time I remember to have a contact (to sea each other) with my dogs when I am changing a direction of march.
You live in a splendid vicinity - perfect for such a dogs like setters. Yours are really happy - active during walks and couch potatoes at home. Like mines:)))

Cornelia Hahn said… - Hallo Kerstin, wir waren erst eine Woche im Elbsandsteingebirge (siehe Fotos - es folgen dann auch noch mehr), danach sind wir über Meissen und Torgau nach Wittenberg (haben in dem kleinen Nest Merschwitz übernachtet). Dann sind wir via Dübener Heide (Biberburgen in der Nähe vom Lutherstein) nach Leipzig und haben von dort aus Eisleben besucht. anschliessen war mein Mann an einem Kongress in Leipzig. Wir waren im Sommer schon mal da (Leipzig und Dresden) und werden bestimmt wieder kommen, denn es gefällt uns sehr in der Gegend. Wir finden auch die Leute sehr nett und gastfreundlich - und die 'Sachsen' ein lustiges Völkchen. Vielleicht sehn wir uns beim nächsten mal. Cornelia, Sinuhe und Joy

Over here in Oz., Halloween is very low key, but I know a lot of people from the U.S.A who are very 'into halloween'. They are all doing the 'pumpkin thing' & dressing up etc..
