The only Setter I have personally owned was a rescue red that I took in back in the seventies. She was nine months old and the people were trying to keep her with them in a travel trailer and she was going batty on them. They brought her out for some obedience classes and three days later dropped her off at my home complete with signed Registration papers and that is how I came by her after she had climbed up my back during the first lesson. She had knocked the woman down the next day. Not long after she was in my life I found myself surrounded by them with my 4-H kids having them and one of the people I went riding with having them. I got introduced to Trevelda and Fleetwoods lines as well as a bunch of backyard bred hunting dogs and pets. Shannon about drove me nuts But she left a mark on me that has always been in my heart.
I have always had a fondness for the breed. The other night I had a crazy dream and in it I saw a dog that I realized this morning was a Red and White setter. And I got to thinking about the good setters I had known and started wanting to learn more about the breed and their temperment as compared to the fruitcakes I knew back in the 70's.
