Our oldest is way down in Texas here with our grandsons...14 hour drive by car....she has always been our sort of wild child while the one still at home is our homebody it seems....can see us pushing her out of the nest someday!!!  Our first Shilo did not steal food and as Molly has not either I put it down to not having competition from the kids in the house....now guess it is just the dog!

Don't get confused as we had more than one Shilo here!  but only one Shannon and one Molly!

I love spring best also....everything so fresh and new and all the pretty flowers and trees starting to bloom and best walking weather of the year here.  Guess that is our reward for winter?  Our Molly is cuddled up in the chair watching me on the computer...she sort of follows me from room to room just as my boys always did...Alan says she is a good watch dog.....she watches us all the time!

Coul;d really confuse you,,,, grew up with a Brittany mix, Pebbles....male and always had male setters who since everyone loved our first one Shilo everyone called all of them but Shannon Shilo so gave up and just called them all Shilo ,,,,and then when my Dad passed away we inherited his male Brittany....another Pebbles and had our last Shilo at the same time.....and then when looking for a itsy, bitsy dog we found our first female....Molly!

Brittanys are a white and red dog ...and often used for hunting...pretty dog and rather high spirted also.  I just called the two my old gentlemen as they were six months apart in age with my Shilo being the older....but Pebbles the dominant always from day one...he walked into our home the first day from the rescue and let our dog know he was the boss...but he also protected Shilo later in life .  Neighbors behind us got a black lab female pup and for some reason Shilo was petrified of it...had always gotten along with their other dog but that pup just terrified him...he would go onto the patio but not into the yard if the pup was out...hated him taking his nature calls on my patio!  Only got worse as the pup grew up but whenever we were dog sitting Pebbles we noticed he patrolled the back fence and then Shilo would go out into the yard....when Pebbles came to live with us he always got in between the fence and Shilo so pup did not bother my Shilo....it was so sweet to watch and the two of them had been raised together so they were like best buddies.  They had things worked out between them as to who got the sofa when and who got the chair....who played with what ball and who sat where in the car....was funny as  both dogged my every step for five years....waited outside bathroom when I took a shower...these two I could walk off lead as one would be on either side of me and had to watch to keep them from leaning into me to nuzzle each other.  I do think
Pebbles griefed himself to death even though he did have other health issues.

Lucky you getting to travel like that.  Bet it was a pretty trip.  Kennel for Molly while you were gone?  Afraid most of our trips if they are long one is to see the grandsons.  We do take a few weekend trips to TableRock Lake here in Mo....love it there ...lots of country music shows and shopping in Branson proper which is half hour from the lake so you have so much to do.  I just love being out on the lake...and my sister inlaw from Texas usually meets us there once or twice a year so nice place to have family time with them .

Sounds like your soap came from Cape Cod which is in NE USA.  We do not stay with my daughter when we visit her either...no room!  I would love to do some more traveling here in states....so much I would love to see but have to get Angie out of college first.

ticks are that bad?  We have them here and they can cause diseases for both dogs and humans but had not heard of ticks causing a death that quickly.  That is so sad.  My Dad lived on a small lake and Pebbles had full run of the area so coming to live with us meant he lost his freedom but he also was most comfortable being here with Shilo and us due to us keeping him for Dad whenever he was in town or did a bit of traveling. I gave my Dad Pebbles after my Mom passed away as he was just sitting there grieving for a year...it got my Dad walking miles each day and living life again so Pebbles was a God Send for him...and for us.

Yes college is like a University...some of them even called that here.  If you look at a map of USA we are pretty much right in the middle of it....and the lake we go to the most is in southern part of the state we live in....about a 4 hour drive.  Lucky you to at least be able to follow up on your Molly while you traveled.  I know the 2 weeks we were in Texas to see our grandsons last year I missed our Molly terribly....could not wait to get home to see her.  We kenneled her and she did the doggie daycare camp in the day time....came home exhausted as she had such a good time.

We do not have ticks here in winter...most people here use Frontline once a month from April to end of October.  I only use it on Molly when she is going to the kennel or we are taking her into a wooded area or letting her run in fields here.  So far none from our yard .  I do go over her pretty good after taking her into woods or fields and handpick with tweezers any ticks I might find,   Do you give Molly heart worm medication monthly?  Ours does get that year round here....no big deal as she thinks it is a treat....do a trick and she just gobbles it right down.  I better head to bed as it is after midnight here and I work tomorrow.  Have a good time with your friends tomorrow night....and I bet Molly sleeps til you get home and then wants to play.

Hi Eunice...glad you had a good night out...and it's always fun to be missed by our Molly's I know!   Did she go out right after you got home?  Our Molly usually greets us with toy in mouth...gets some loving and then heads to the back door here.  I have been really lucky with our IS as they seem to maintain the house breaking really well.....if there is ever a mess it usually is not that kind here unless they are sick.

Snow and ice is melting here....up to 60 today and looks like we have a winter thaw going on for this week at least!  :)  Looks so funny to see the grass again after all this ice and snow.  I start at least a 6 day work streak tomorrow between the two stores...have not gotten my schedule for the week after and praying I will at least have next Sunday off.  Should be the last week of my going between the two stores I hope.

Are you all still so hot?  Today it feels like spring here and just wish it could stay for a long , long time!  Molly is in and out and dealing with the resulting muddy paws here but that is part of having her in our life.....keep wondering if she would wear boots for outside here!  Two pairs to rotate so one could be drying but afraid it would be just another playtoy for her to toss around and if she really hates them to bury outside!

Hi...glad your weather is a wee bit cooler.  I am trying to imagine our Molly actually asleep out in the yard and can't!  She will lie down but has to stay on her bird alert incase she needs to protect her space.  We bring her in for her afternoon snooze here or she would literally wear herself out ...such a nosey little girl!

Aren't you glad the cat missed?  Our Molly stuck her head in the bush last summer by our front door and came out with a sparrow!  Poor bird was scared to death ...Molly is soft mouthed but surprised the heck out of me when she came out with the bird.  Molly will play with her water polo ball or run around shaking one of her soft stuffed animals outside but if the sun is high she is birding.  She plays with tennis balls, and her stuffed animals inside all the time...and will bring them to us to play retrieve or catch with her.  She also likes a game of tug or shake the toy. Her big delight is hiding the sock or whatever she has borrowed from us though.....and for Alan to chase her when she has her tea towel!  She is so funny to watch hiding things ...uses her nose to pat it into place and tries to cover it up.  She will move things a few times til she is satisfied it is hidden well enough.  Never know what is under a blanket, towel or pillow here ....or in the clothes basket!  Happy Valentines Day to Molly and you both....hope it was a special one and she gave you extra lovings today!

How nice to see pictures of Molly's sister and father....does she look a lot like her sister?  I wish we knew our girls back round but just have to be happy having her in our life.

Bet it was fun to have your husband home today....we were all three home today so went out to brunch...then spent the day here at home.  Our Molly usually reserves her barks for the squirrels or rabbits at the end of her sneaking up on them....when they run she runs and gives her I am coming bark.

Are you doing obedience training or agility?  I decided to train our Molly ourselves in part of never having a set schedule at work...hard to work a class in every week at same time .  My other IS I did take to obedience classes while my girls were in school...it was almost the same experience everytime...they did well in most of it til it was the off lead down and my walking away from them,  they would start crawling behind me when I got about half way across the room....I would hear the snickers of the other owners and knew what they were doing  and when I would turn to look at them they would go into the down position and look at me like see I am still down  .  With Molly coming into our lives as an older untrained dog I first felt we needed to form the attachment to each other and the loyality so our one on one training was a big important part of forming that bond I felt.  She is around other dogs and people as that also was part of way we trained.  Have been thinking of now going for brush ups in obedience if I can work out schedule at work .  Molly will do a one minute stay here in the house with my walking into another room where she can not see me but not sure if she would do that outside or not.

We don't have african minors?  what are those?  Our squirrels usually are not tame and you can't get close to them so have never had one crawl up a leg...wonder if those squirrels in London are ones that people feed all the time like in a park?  Basically in our yard it is squirrels, rabbits and chipmunks that Molly chases...so far she has not caught one as they run fast...and take off while she is still in her creep up stalking slow motion mote...birds are funny as it is not every bird she will chase just certain ones.

That is really reasonable...wish I could find a group like that here.  Is there a regular instructor?  I do think Molly is a good name for an IS...perhaps a calm name for it seems both our Molly's are calm....or is it our experience of already having raised kids and IS that is the calming effect?

Hi Eunice...I really enjoy talking to you also...and it's fun to learn about different countries but the thing that is most amazing is how we all treat our IS pretty much the same! We have a few birds here that will protect their nest by chasing....mainly mockingbirds and a few hawks will also do the same. Will try to look up the one you mentioned to see if we have anything like it here.  We tend to get overrun with sparrows here and blackbirds....sparrows will make a very messy nest on the front porch and make a mess all over the place....that is what Molly caught here last year....I felt sorry for the bird but Alan gave her a treat for getting one of those!  It was amazing to watch a robin built her nest and raise her baby here last year right by the patio...we did stay out with Molly to help protect the nest but she never bothered it...the one outside headshot is her watching the mother feed the babies...I did get some cute pictures of the baby when it left the nest ( did keep Molly inside til they were out of our yard though)

We worry about them as much as we did our kids when we have to leave them.  Some vets here will board smaller dogs and cats but we usually use a kennel...some kennels will even pick up and deliver your dog back to you ( but not the one we use) ..there are even grooming vans that will come to your door and bathe and groom your dog in the van in front of your home, places where you can take your dog and use their supplies to bathe and groom the dog yourself...dog house sitters who will either come and walk them and feed them while you are gone or even stay in your home with them.  Amazes me at all the pet oriented business there is now.  I bathe Molly myself for the most part but we do take her to a groomers a couple of times a year...close enough I can walk her up to them if I want to.

I hope it is a pleasure trip you are taking? I bet she will miss you when you are gone and will be bonkers to get back home.  I do think it is good to leave them periodically so they are used to kennels and learn that you will come back.  My Dad always used us as his pet sitter for Pebbles so when he came to live with us he was 8 years old and had never been to a kennel so for the next five years someone had to stay home with him or I would have to get one of my sisters to keep him for us while Shilo went to the kennel...he never really settled down anywhere after he lost my Dad except here with us so that is one thing I do not want to ever go thru again. Do you take a special blanket and toy to the kennel for her while you are gone? I hated to leave Molly last year for two weeks so I know how you worry that they are alright and behaving.

Molly did not get to go to brunch with us as patio's dining is not open yet where we went. Days here are getting longer...leave work at 5pm and so nice to not drive home in the dark so I know spring is on it's way for us. Still have about 2 inches of that last snow that has not melted in our yard...figure by Friday it will finally be all melted,   Alan would like to borrow a few of those African Minor birds to get rid of our "home for unwed sparrows " that  try to build every year on our front porch.  We are seeing more hawks and owls here so perhaps they will limit the over abundance of sparrows around here.

Tonight we went out to dinner and then gave Molly her Valentine's Day bone...then sat back to watch the fun. She took it into the family room and began her hiding game..first under the pillow on the sofa, then under the chair cover , then back in to see us with it hanging out the front of her mouth like a big ,fat, white cigar, then under my Great Grandma's parlor table....about three minutes in each spot....then into the living room and under her beach towel on the sofa...then under the small quilt on the chair by the front door...then into her toy box while she took a break outside, back inside it went into our bedroom and under the pillow, then under the bed, then she pulled back the bed spread and hid it under there and put the pillow on top of it....then into our closet behind the sliding doors hidden in a shoe...right now she is hiding it in the family room.  Have never had one hide things like she does and it is a riot to watch...though you do have to straighten up behind her...right now it is in the basket of wash I was going to take downstairs.  I am liable to find it wedged in the small of my back tomorrow morning.  She did this at Christmas also and finally after about 25 days began to eat it...lasted about a month with the hiding games going on almost daily. To us it is just fun to watch..or perhaps we are easily amused?
