How many Irish Setters do you have?
2 girls right now: Neita & Zilou. dear Odin & Danka watching over us from doggie heaven :(
How long have you owned Irish Setters?
since 1997 february
About Me:
WW'03 EUVW'08 Ch C.I.E. Berboss Instant Coffee (1996-2010) - for me just Odin - was my first setter, she left me 2nd January 2010 after 13 years of friendship. Odin was my all and everything, my best friend in good and bad times. She taught me so much about canine intelligence and behaviour, about love and loyalty. She was purchased for being a normal dog but very soon I got bitten by the show bug. She was a real show girl and compensated my faults in the show ring :) It was her soft character and look-at-me attitude that charmed all people meeting her, friends, strangers and even judges. Thank you Odin for sharing your life with me!
***************************************************************************************
After much thinking I decided to get another girl and doing some research, I ended up in Sweden. This is how Danka - MultiCh C.I.E. C.I.B. Copper's Music 'N' Paws' - came to live with us in 2005. And yes, she taught me new things about canine behaviour :) Through her I was able to get to know the naughty and the run-run-run side of the Irish Setter. She is referred to as 'crazy Danka' by the setter club, hm, does it say it all? So different from Odin, but oh so lovable as well. A real clown, adoring kids, loving dog shows and having so much fun in the fields. Having 13 champion titles and being the first setter to qualify in the field on a Hungarian field trial and gaining CIB by this. Very intelligent, observant and empathetic. Thanks Danka for being with me, love you girl!
***************************************************************************************
And then Neita - Full CH Copper's Wine 'N' Roses HJCH RJCH - arrived. Still cannot decide if she has more angel or devil inside her. She is the sweetest, wants to be close to you all the time, would love to crawl under your skin if that would be possible. Everyone is in love with her because of her beauty and character - bet if I would give her away, people would want to give her back the day after :) She is the destroyer in the house, eats sofas and doors but when she looks at you with those eyes, you just can't be angry on her (for a longer time that is...). She is a big actress as well, pretending to be a real blond - was hard to realize that actually she has brains and a lot! Unbeaten in baby-puppy-junior classes, we look forward to challenges in adult classes. Neita is a talent in the fields as well, already managed to get a CQN just one year old. She backs from the first second on and does not point but sets like a real setter :-)
***************************************************************************************
Pawsword Northern Song, little Zilou - the one I know from the first second on, being Danka's daughter. The one that unites all the positive virtues of Irish Setters without having a bad detail. She has only been shown in baby and puppy class because of big sister Neita. Zilou is getting better with every day and seems to develop into a copy-paste of Danka. The best character ever, the best working abilities. The girl that makes me smile with every move she makes. Love you so much, little girl!

    Hi Laura,
Had quite a lot of fun yesterday! Peter (will try to email you some photos) got shortlisted but did not make the last 5 (quite a few Champions in the veteran class) and then I handled a dog (who is related to mine) for a friend (while she was in the game keepers class at the other end of the show with other dogs) and got short listed in a strong limit class and then 3rd in the good citizen class! I met a lot of members from ES from the Continent and I hope the photo is published soon! See if you know WHO is WHO?

Thanks for your welcome. Your girls look really lovely. Danka is the same eage as my Nick. His 4 birthday was on 22.02. and he has got a big steak, not like your girls - your cakes are amazing, you are in deed an expert in making them.

Thanks Laura. Nice to hear from you. I haven't been on-line this past week as we've been to New Zealand for a holiday to visit my brother & sister-in-law, which was nice. Missed home though & girls. They were fine and 'I think' missed us. I know Tess did, but when we arrived home, Megg did her 'scrunchy smily face', then took off outside in pursuit of possums. Mmmmmm. Think she was 'paying out' on us. Tess still will not leave my side, but that's pretty usual for her.
Megg still has not shown any interest in her birthday present. Soooo funny. She still looks at it in horror. Take care & love to Oden & Danka.

Hi Laura--thank you for your welcome. I see you are in Budapest. My mother's parents were immagrants from Hungary. Had land around Budapest. I don't know anything about their lives before they came over to the US in late1800's early 1900's. My mother was born in 1917 in the US. Their family names were Marodi and Bursodi.

    I also have Gordon Setters.

Hi again---Yes, I am on the Setters-L list....small internet world!

One of these days I will update my website, but there are some photos of my dogs there. I am not very skilled at all of this cyber-stuff. The Irish puppies are now nearly 2 years old, and the Gordon pups are 20 months. I am very pleased with how the Gordons are turning out. The Irish litter is very nice also but I am a little less excited about going forward with them due to "local politics" . Still, it is a very nice pedigree (3/4 UK lines) and they are lovely, and good temperaments. I wish the "animal rights" nuts would leave us alone. They are trying to pass all this legislation that makes it a crime to simply own an intact dog, much less an intact purebred dog.

I am so sorry that I did not answer your question till today. That was really rude of me. My Nick was born in Ljubljana (our capital city), that is about 140 km from my home. About his parents: Nick is from their first litter. The father is Loving red Big Ben, his mother Bea izpod Belšce. I guess they are not that famous, but I think their ancestors are, so if you would like I can sand you his pedigree by e-mail.

I saw you website and is really nice. I noticed that you girls are beautiful and big champions too. I guess you go often to shows. Maybe if you will come to some show here in Slovenia or in Austria we could meet?
    greetings, Dunja

The very best of luck Laura for your coming shows. I'm sure your girls will do you proud. Having friends to go with is nice as you get to 'socialise' as well as your girls. Lots of love to them both.

Oh Laura, ticks are terrible, nasty things. Fortunately they are big enough to see and hopefully remove. With so much red hair though, it is a big job. I'm sure you've been over your girls with a fine tooth comb, and they will be fine. We don't get many ticks where we are, luckily. They are further up north in Queensland, NSW areas mostly. We get those dreadful grass-seeds though, and they are always a constant worry, mainly in the Spring. I feel lucky that we are approaching our Winter, which after all that has been going on here in Melbourne, it is a blessing.

Love to your girls. I'm sure you have all those horrid things out of them.

    Lynn & girls.
  • Esther Siegrist

    Danke Laura!

    Hi Laura
Yes, it is a small world isn't it. I didn't realise you had both sides of Clancy's pedigree in your girls. They are all lovely dogs. Have you ever seen Intrepid? I had heard he was quite a solid boy, but not that big?
    Happy Easter
    Cheryl
