How long have you owned Irish Setters?
20 years
About Me:
Have moved around the world a lot., Norway, Canada..where I concentrated on showing Arab horses...discovered setters and the horses took to each other very well.....took all my lovely setters to France for 7 years...now back in U.K., (Suffolk) with Abbi (2 years old) and new baby girl..Lola ... just adore setters..nothing compares as far as I'm concerned...Never happier than when walking in the forest with my girls (and hubby, of course) ..passionate about gardening also , which can pose a problem!!
Sorry I haven't got back to you before And thanks for the Good Luck, I think that I am going to need it as you probably have read she had 15 strapping puppies. A lot of work..
all the best Dee and the girls
Hi there!! Any new photos of Lola? :-)) You'll find a couple of rather new ones of Saimi here: http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb199/BlacklakeFamily/
Be careful what you wish for, I accept any help and anyone shows any interest they will be snapped up, Marie Wison asked if I needed any help, so she got invited. I am so greatfull for it, I managed to get a quick shower. Oh bliss...it is strange how the most simple thing is wonderful.
Ah well it is only for 8 weeks. But I am sure that I will live through it all....I just hope that all the babies will live through it...all the best Dee and the girls
Hi Sammi, thank you for your message.
Well, I'm maybe too worried, Lucky is just a very quiet and peaceful dog. In the same breed or the same litter, some dogs are nervous, energic and an other one just very calm who likes to sleep ?
For the food, I'm trying my best to make him eating ! that's very important now, our dogs, Lucky or Lola too need to eat correctly to grow nicely and healthy.
By tomorrow or Friday latest, I should receive the results of his blood tests.
Talk to you later.
JL
Hi Sammy, I have very good news !!! the exams of Lucky are excellent even his DNA didn't show anything wrong. If we see something strange we can check but for the time being it's not necessary.
Tonight I was so happy and I was petting him when I realised that he had just been stung by a bee or a wasp. I had to take him urgently to the vet. He had a few injections.
Hope tomorrow he will feel better, and eats correctly. He doesn't like his crockets except if I had some fresh meat.
Anyway, I feel better after these good results.
JL
Hi there, they are just stopping the sausage sage, they are starting to get a wee bit of personality now, a few strong willed babies, and some that just chill.
Thanks for the comment on the picture

thank you for your kind message!
Your girls are just awesome, have a great pictures of them:)
I can´t wait when Zara is going to be done with all hunting shows and then I´ll have one more setter too:) I would love to have a couple, so will see:)
Take care and good luck with your gilrs!
Hi Sammi,
Thank you so much for your advice about the new album 'Summer 09' you just posted here. Lola is not small anymore, is she almost the same size than Abbi ? They look great together, they are the perfect match.
Here is very hot and sunny, hope you enjoy also summertime in England.
JL
Really like your garden. Wish I could one like yours. At the moment my oldest boy is digging.... so the garden has to wait. Lola looks very sweet, Lovely photos of the dogs as well.
Hi there Sammi.
Yes have got an eye on a boy, well ALL the boys I like one but they keep changing, they are all so lovely, it really was the best decision to use Mr J, I just think he is a splendid dog, and the picture that is on Colin Waddells site with the two of them sitting together just proves it, they look wonderful..
Still I am a little bit prejudices I think the puppies are fab...all potential Sh Ch.....I wish...
Well if you come to Scotland there are some lovely walks for dogs here, will you be bringing the dogs????...
Dee and the gang...
Ah well the name....all the names, got any suggestions??? they all must begin with M and the theme is Mr or Mrs, Monsieur (Sorry but I can't remember how to spell that) or Madam ie Miss Moneypenny Miss Marples Monsieur Megret etc. and then there is the pet name, I like to call mine by spices or sweet smelling flowers again ie Jasmine, Saffron and Tamarind etc, I thought about a herb but in a different language.
As for your holiday, well if the weather is anything like today and the last week it has been raining persistently. If you are on the west coast, don't forget the midge repellent. They have teeth as big as their bodies... we here on the east cost aren't afflicted so much by these horrid little MONSTERS...and do drop in for some bottle duty...
All hands greatly received....Dee and the gang
One or two good ones there, thank you will have to write them down and mull them over again thanks....will have to make a competition out of this....perhaps????
All the best Dee and the gang
Well ... I see that you can understand perfectly the stress particularly of Joseph with the garden ! We also planted this year many trees. So, sometimes early moring, or evening until late at night, we have to water ...
Thanks Sammi for the garden info! I think I know Cosmos flowers, but they grow much smaller over here, I think. Should consider those for the next summer!! Sent you a friend request through FB. You'll find some photos from our construction site over there... Now, out we go. Time for a photo session!!!
Hi Sammi,
I invested in a Canon EOS 30D and after 30 plus years of trying to get action shots of my setters, I am finally getting there:-))
Most photos are taken with a xtra special Canon lense EF 200mm 1:2.8 L II
and it really works!
Hi there We did think of Mister Magoo but he was a blind as a bat, so didn't want to temp providence. But thanks for the name anyway, I will probably still have a few of them in October I think, so if you want to come along and see them by all means do. And of cause I will be keeping one, or if you just want to come and have a coffee then please do...
I have to keep a couple because they are going abroad so they will still be here then...all the best Dee and the gang
Hey Sammi...I cant give in can I?
Not with 4 1/2 dogs, 4 cats, 20 chickens and 4 horses! They will ALL want a cake for their birthday...and then what????
Hello Sammi,
Yes, these old grey faces are so very special. Shannon can be pretty hard work too and very stubborn, but very much treasured:-))
I see yours have great fun in life...
all the best
Susan
Don't know what the name is but I think that it will be Dark Blue he just has that little something extra...Thanks a lot for the lovely comment greatly appreciated...Dee and the gang
Hi Sammi - love all your new photos of the girls, especially Lola cuddling up to your cat!! Are you staying in Galloway while you're up here, or coming any further north?
Hi Sammi, thought of a Canon:-) a really top type that guarantees extraordinary pics! Christmas is getting nearer and I hope Santa Claus has already read my mind! Do you still have any horses? What exactely did you do at the horse shovvs? Kerstin
Hi Sammi, I am not only a passionate Setter fan but also infatuated with horses- a combination that fits because our Setters are patient spectators while riding dressage and fast horse companions in the fields/woods. I have got 3 horses - my daughter's Fjord mix (photo) and two crossbreed (my own breed, jumping line). Summer (10 months) fell in love with the pony. She likes competing with him for the fastest gallop. Best wishes Kerstin
Yes, Sammi. Since Tuesday we have snow. Jamie have missed them the last 5 month :-)))
Doggies are always clean in the snow, but wet when them are in the house and the snow will smelt
Thanks for comment and regards Esther
Hi Sammi,
I'm glad you liked my girls. Your own pictures are lovely. I take it the Scottish holiday was in Galloway? I love your picture of Lola cuddling up to Mojo. We had an old black cat when we got Bridget. They bonded immediately and used each other as a pillow. It was very special. We live in Angus, near Forfar which (not speaking as a geographer :)) is about half way up Scotland on the right hand side. We're lucky enough to have lots of nice woods and fields for off lead exercise. Today it is glorious and the girls have been making the most of it. Setters on an autumn day look particularly splendid, even with the odd twig in their bloomers. Best wishes to you and your lovely animals.
Hi Sammi,
Great to hear from you ! In England, it's nice you can see Irish setter, and besides meet people with the same passion for their dog. So to think to have a friendly walk with six Irish setters, I can just dream of it ? In France, it's rare to see Irish setter as you know, and the breeders are producing dogs with no type.
In England and Ireland of course, Irish setter are as they should ressemble. I can tell you that, especially when I see a superb photo in the Galloway forest.
I would like to come once to Crufts, have you been there already ? It should be impressive to see all these beautiful dogs at the same time. Unfortunately, this year, they didn't broadcast anything from the show, because of some bad bad people who in breed too much and produce sick dogs. It's what I heard in the news. I don't know if next year, the tv will be again at the show ?
You asked me if I was thinking to have an other Irish setter ? Why not, I would love it, the temptation is really big, but maybe it's better to do it when Lucky will be older. I should wait like you did between Abbi and Lola, don't you think ?
Plus, I think I was so lucky to have a dog from Mel when she accepted to sell me one of her puppies. Plus one puppy from Liberty X, she's such a beautiful girl. I should thank Mel forever. "Lucky" is already so beautiful for me, and has such an easy character. He is adorable, obedient, tender ... how should I be more lucky myself with an other Irish setter ? so I cannot have my eyes for an other one right now. Maybe a girl ? or a boy ? I don't know what would be the best. It's true it could be nice also for Lucky ?
I will see in the future.
Thank you for your welcome to the site - apologies for not replying sooner but we have just returned from hols. Your photos of your holiday are great- glad to hear you had such a good time in this area. Dalbeattie forest is one of the walks on our list & often pop in there if I am in the area. Did your girls enjoy the loch??!!!
Hope to put some photos of Hattie on soon - not a computer whiz but will try!!!!
Hi Sammi, Thanks for the welcome, - I am really enjoying looking around the site and reading the exploits and profiles of both dog's and owners! - it's great to find so many people who love these 'charismatic life enhancing characters', - if what is said is true that 'dog's reflect their owners personalities' perhaps that applies to us all as well!. - I use to think that Jinty was the dog equivalent of 'Tigger'!, it was sad to watch her natural exuberance fade as she reached her dotage and I miss her dearly, Rio is a delightful chap but at almost 5 months old I think he could be lulling me into a false sense of security and the Juvenile delinquent stage could be just around the corner.
