In my family we always had dogs (mainly german shepherd crosses). But I have never thought that I will be doing so many things with pedigree dogs. Everything began during holidays on lakes. I met Ruda - red irish girl - beautiful, friendly, polite, quiet and not barking at other dogs running along the fances what is typical for german shepherds and what I hate all my heart. I was delighted with Ruda's character.
A month later I had my own little irish girl - Bajka (On the Sunny Side of the Street z Arislandu). I admired her character even more. For me she still is a perfect setter. First of all beautiful, with so balanced character and an addition of so wonderful madness as only setters have:-)
Without any plans, slowly, life showed me next steps - first shows, field trials, dogotherapy, puppies (only once). That was the beginning of my kennel - Bajkowe Rudzielce (2000). I kept two Bajka's children: Kruszyna and Pielgrzym. Life with three setters is crazy but it is worth every effort.
I lost Pielgrzym in 2007 because of babeshia. Since autumn 2011 I have new little girl - Kasia of McBirdy;-). I thought I will be much longer with my three girls but soon enexpectedly I lost Kruszyna. And last spring I had to say goodbye my almost 15 yo Bajka.
So now I am again with one little red girl.
Hello Anna,
thanks for your comment to dear old lady Shannon, her little white face is quite endearing, but she can still terrorize the household;-))
have fun with your redheads!
Susan

Dzien dobry Anna
Thank you for your kind comments on my fur faces. Faith (white chest) was actually what the field trial folks in the US call an Red Setter. They brought back the type of dog the Irish setter used to be (originally white with red patches until breeders went for the more red on the dogs. Some of the old field trial web sites still show the red setters working in the field, they are permitted to have white toes, white chest, face/head blaze and white tip of tail. Faith (actually all 3 of my setters are) came through Irish Setter rescue, I adopted her in December of 2004 she was around 8 yrs old at the time had had a hard life. She is now approx 12-13 as her age when she came into Rescue hands was just a guess. She had leg troubles now (back & front) muscle degeneration. Shane (white faced boy) I adopted in August of 2003 - he had been a stray. (5 days after my boy Devin crossed the rainbow bridge) his age was guessed at 4-5 yrs old so he is 10-11 now. He just celebrated 6 yrs with me. Kylie (my baby) is now 7 yrs old. I adopted her in the springof 2003 she was 10 months old at the time. Your dogs are lovely Anna and I love their names - very very nice. Enjoy your day Carol in Pennsylvania U.S.A.
hi Anna, it happened to me also, for example with Charlotte's videos (chikadee and girly owner). will ask my friend who owns one of the dogs, okey? if i don't get back to you, please remind me :-)
shouldn't you sleep by now???

i will let you know when i know more about the original.

Greetings from Spain. I know it's a bit addictive same as facebook. But I just love looking at every ones Irish Setters, and the puppies what more can I say it makes me wish my boy and girl had had some but not meant to be. Regards Pam
Hi Anna, thanks for your sympathy. It is so good to read similiar stories that did not end tragically. In those moments of pain you become aware - more than ever before - what a fabulous companion you could loose and start blaming yourself for not being watchful enough. Hugs to Kruszyna. I like your photos with the working setters, they are so proud carrying the game! Best wishes Kerstin
Good evening Anna,
you have written about interesting obedience aspects. I wonder how to teach them eye contact when changing the direction or stopping at roads. It's amazing that it works. How long did it take you before you could be sure that your dogs really do what you want them to do? At the moment it is a bit difficult for me to train the two youngsters effectively. Amy (1,5 years) is a bundle of energy from a German working/hunting line and I always have to take her on a long leash (15m). After Summer's adventurous excursion I use the leash for her as well. That means I have to go/cycle (not with Summer!) three times (Miss Marple - our elderly Turkish stray dog needs attention, too) after work! I will see how to manage that in the future because it is getting dark earlier every day . My huband can only support me at the weekends.
Enjoy your evening! Kerstin
Hello,

Well time is never enough, but somehow I manage to do what I suppose to do, when my garden is a big hobbie:-) Now it is winther here and snow on the ground and I can give all attention to the dogs and my house.
Thank you again for kind message,
All the best/Kristina & Co
Sorry Anna, to be so slow responding to your garden comment. The bush with the red flower is called a "Bottlebrush."Very pretty and many varieties.

He Anna, Thanx for your lovely comment. It's oke by me that you took the photo's to discuss the relation between man/woman;-) and dog. Hope the others also liked the picture and the relation.....
Like the photo's ofyour dogs!
Thank you for your kind words! As always ... what is beautiful lies in the eye of the one that´s watching. I will come back to your site and all the photos to take a more close look.
I know I have a beast and he has practiced his garden skills ... how do I learn him just to pick the Hosta flowers? If you deadhead them, and other perennials, the beautiful green leaves get more beautiful.
Hi Ania :)
Pozdrowienia dla Was wszystkich!
oj nie wiem czy będę mogła spać z tej zazdrości, ja też jestem maniakalnym fanem szczeniąt :) uwielbiam te pomruki w kojcu przez pierwsze tygodnie a potem te niezdarne zabawy :)
Thank you for your comment Anna! But then I have known about the trainability of setters for a long time...:-)
I have three obedience champions in a row...mother, daughter and granddaughter...

Hi there Anna
Thanks for the comment on the picture of the two girls sitting on the settee, you can see why I would comment on the 'Setters on Settees' blog The two dogs on there are my Long gone Tammy and Jasmine, when she was a youngster, the settee is long gone too, My Akita ate it, so have got two more, but bigger, now that I have three setters I am going to need it....ha ha...Thanks again Dee and the gang
Hi there Anna
My Akitas are very long gone, I loved having them, and had them for a very long time, two of them left us at the wonderful age of 15 and then the body was good but the mind had gone. Such a shame..
But now with three Irish my house is now ''FULL'' and so are the settees, when the boy gets on his back and stretches out he takes up a whole one, well with Jas at the other end, curled up into a ball, the whole settee is filled. I share the other with Saffy. Your 'kids' look really comfortable on those settees that they are sharing with (I thought that wasn't a setter on one of those settees) ? an Airedale ?
All the best speak soon Dee and the gang
