How many Irish Setters do you have?
One
How long have you owned Irish Setters?
I have been owned by Irish Setter's since 1973
About Me:
We got our first Irish Setter, Shilo, back in 1973 ...knowing nothing of the breed but soon fell in love with our boy...and since then we have had 5 more males....we lost our last old gentleman Irish in 2008 and our inherited rescue Brittany a month later and husband said NO MORE DOGS !! Well , in June of 2009 I talked him into letting me rescue an itsy, bitsy dog but the more I looked the more I knew my heart was truly with my Irish Setters....then one night watching the Cardinal's Baseball game ....they had the Purina Pro Dog of the week looking for a home....a young female Irish Setter named Heidi ( on You Tube under Heidi the Irish Setter) and to make a long story short ....Heidi has become our Miss Molly ! Wee bit wild at first but was out of crate even when we were not home within 3 months, Miss Molly has just been an awesome Irish for us....have ran out of tricks to teach her....and she sure changed my mind about insisting on always having a male dog! I had always gotten Irish puppies around 12 weeks old before but after being owned by Miss Molly ....I would search for a rescue dog as she has just been so easy to train and fit into our lives. The only thing I wish we did know was what her pedigree was . I still miss my boys but Miss Molly sure healed a lot of aching hearts in our home.

thing about your porch cat. Usually cats go where they are happy. Do you ever hear how he is since they moved.
  • Eunice Marott

I guess baby molly does not do as much as Miss Molly. She hangs with me but when Neil gets home then it is on. She does not have lots of toys like Miss Molly and only plays with her toys outside. We should do more activity but she seems happy enough.

I bet you felt something when they moved and took her cat. 18 years is a great age for a cat. Neil has one when he was younger who lived to 21 but ours I think only 14 or 15. Our IS Sharla was 15 when she died.

  • Eunice Marott

she is a funny thing. Seems to have so much character. Molly's toys are wet from the rain and sitting on the desk railing to dry.

You should get some nice weather soon. We always have rain April and sometimes in May.

  • Eunice Marott

are you going to watch the Royal Wedding. Molly and I are now watching the coverage live. I wrapped some feathers around Molly so she would look dressed up for the occasion. I think I need to get back to work... going back to my second childhood!!!
  • Eunice Marott

The wedding was great. I loved her dress just simple. The whole experience was excellent. We started our telecast around 4pm in the afternoon. The wedding was around 8pm. William looked good also. Molly has some photos on the site. When Neil got home we cracked the champagne to toast the couple. Just a nice wedding
  • Eunice Marott

i just put them over her and she thought they were pretty smart. Just sat there with her feathers on. I got them when we went and saw Rocky Horror Picture Show last year. Come in useful for something
  • Eunice Marott

ha ha ha.... very funny I think Molly would look better in the feathers. It was a great show
  • Eunice Marott

went to a place to disgard old paint today. Got into queue with Molly in the back of the car. Man stuck his head in the window and she really growled at him. I thought she was going to take a piece of him. He started talking to her and all was o.k.
  • Eunice Marott

    roast beef yum my favourite

I did not have time to stop Molly but I think if he had placed his head in further she would have leaned forward and the rest I am not sure. She places her out of the window too not while we are driving through. Just sits on the back seat. How's joy glasses so cute. I don't think baby molly would wear them. Joy looks so good

  • Eunice Marott

how is it going today. Molly is now chasing the cat. I am not interfering they will sort it out. All o.k. here.
  • Eunice Marott

just after midnight here. Molly was inside since 4pm... good girl now running around the back yard. I need to go to bed so she will be in soon.
  • Eunice Marott

Molly probably could not wait to tell you about the lack of grass now. They are like kids. Those kind of grasses are really nice but as you say will grow back. The big orange garfield like cat really puts heaps on Molly but unlike the others she fights back. Not that she would hurt him but she likes to show him she is boss but I think he thinks he is boss. Next door were gardening yesterday and found a snake danageous one. I saw them pick it up not what I would have done. They said they threw it down the back so hope it goes away. Would have been disturbed from the other side where the building is going on. Also we have had some mice from there so snakes and mice usually go together. I am really tied today after last night. We went to see my cousins and had dinner late. Molly was really good though unlike she usually is when we got home she had gone to bed for the night. Most likely gave  up on us. Then wanted to play but we just wanted to go to bed. She finally settled down and today back to her normal self. Don't work too hard.
  • Eunice Marott

yes snakes and mice, rates, bandicots or anything like that is a no no with me. I would have let fly if I had seen my dog playing with a snake. The snakes should be alseep now for winter. I think it was and because they were gardening they disturbed it. Overcast here today and no work next door maybe they are having a holiday... GOOD

Number 2 granddaughter is going in a float today. In Alice they have a public holiday for May Day and she is riding in a parade with her pre school.

  • Eunice Marott

yes I just read and replied. Have you been to Canada? I am just reading some stuff on it in the paper.
  • Eunice Marott

In sydney we do not do May day. In Alice they do... Australia has different public holidays in each state and school holidays are at different times just to make things difficult. No a brochure in the paper. Neil would like to go on a cruise in Alaska. Friend of mine did that last year. If we do anything like that we would have to do it before 2013

  • David McIlveen Wright

    Sherry,

Darwin is a weird boy, but so lovable! His paw story is very long and unbelievable ... but here goes! It goes back to when he was a pup and he somehow got a cut in his paw, right underneath on the pad. It seemed to be healing up, but it got inflamed and infected - yes, through a grass seed getting in there! We guess he was trying to get at the source of his pain and started chewing one of his nails ... bit the nail off completely over time and exposed the tender flesh underneath. We bandaged his lower paw to try to keep him away from the nail, and then he started licking further up his leg .... exposing the flesh there because his tongue was so rough! For months now we have been trying to stop him doing this and it seemed that we just had success, but this morning he was at it again! I was so angry with him a couple of hours ago, and had to put a bandage on it again, but I believe the way the paw flexes when he runs put pressure on that spot and hurt him again. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I could have killed him a few hours ago!

  • Eunice Marott

i have just been having the problem where I could not reply. Poor Molly is she o.k. I hate it when they attack from behind. She should be able to go for her walk and have fun not have to worry about other aggressive dogs?

Glad you did not take her off the lead. She is now safely home and tucked up in bed

  • Eunice Marott

i sent u an email because I could not send through your profile page
  • Eunice Marott

i really do not have any patience for dogs like that. Molly knows the dog does she.. poor thing IS are not like that and would not it barking in her face
  • Eunice Marott

freezing!!! where is spring and summer
  • Eunice Marott

sure do.. the second sunday in May. If weather o.k. I have requested we take Molly to a park (where they allow dogs) and have a BBQ
  • Eunice Marott

thats so nice what a sweetie.

Molly really acting up sometimes it is like she is trying to speak to me.

  • Eunice Marott

thought I would tell you this in regards to Miss Molly issue with the hound last night. Many years ago we were walking our IS Sharla Black lab came running out of the bushes of a house and barking and growling at her. She turns on him and somehow knocked him over. He ended up on his back. Hows that for a setter.

Next night he came out again saw her and ran back into his yard.I will never forget that night. Baby Molly is more like Sharla than Cherie but all different.

  • Julia Kuzmenko

Hi Sherry! Thanks for your comments and invitation. I agree, It's really nice site. More live with irish setter, more friends have.  Setter connected people all over the world! Thanks them for that and for their love to us.

Best regards your family and Ms Molly!

  • john murphy

  • Jennifer E Bennett

Thank you Sherry for the kind comments about Grace & Molly

Ms Molly looks a real sweetie

  • Eunice Marott

Molly playing with her toys today. Poor thing the big orange cat just chased her she is now standing between the lounge and him too frightened to move. She just made a run for it. Don't know what has gotten into him lately he will chase her and scratch her nose, walk past and just stratch... poor Molly
  • Vilja Vehkaoja

Thanks for your nice comments on my profile! It was so nice seeing your setters too. Good luck for the future!
  • Eunice Marott

Molly and Samson still the same. Molly was just sick not sure what brought that on. She has destroyed one of her toys so hope she has not eaten anything from that.

Maybe they need to roster a bit better for you at work. Not good. Day off is day off. Neck still a problem will email you.

  • Eunice Marott

thats fair enough re job. Molly is outside just about to let her back in. We are 15 hours in front of you. Better when it is daylight saving for us.

I will buy Molly another toy to replace this one and one hopefully she can not rip up and eat bits. It was in the bargin barrel and she sniffed it out.

  • Eunice Marott

Baby Molly exactly the same here with her toy.

Just as I am writing this a beautiful while grey cat came up to the glass door. I think it is the million dollar rare variety from next door. If so should not be outside. Anyway Samson sees it and rushes to the glass and off it goes. I think our Samson has a few issues lately. Molly seems o.k.

  • Eunice Marott

i think he is... being a real little pain at the moment. Molly is so good gives into him heaps but not quite like Cherie who was afraid of him. He is a bully and should stop.
  • Eunice Marott

Molly can open the back door now when locked. Only way she can't is when I bolt the top but the other lock she can work out how to open. They are all out of control here.
  • Michelle Walsh

Hi Sherry ! how are things ? Hoping you & of course Miss Molly are all keeping well.

I'm glad my beastie's hair made you laugh again :) I have to admit...it's hard not to :)

You should see it on a windy day, non stop smiles from me. Tragically my own tresses are not nearly so glamourous nor note worthy :) He's in great form at the moment, his last injection has really helped him, he has a new lease on life, leaping around the place like a pup ! let's hope it lasts.

Bye for now & thanks as always for the lovely comments Sherry  xx

  • Michelle Walsh

Yes Sherry, it's great, I'm hoping it will last for a few more months at least, fingers crossed. I suppose it does look like he's looking at his hair :) he was actually keeping one eye firmly locked on a pidgeon on the shed roof, ever the Setter :)

Sorry to hear about your impending storm, weather here not too bad at the moment and we rarely get major storms, just as well as Lego doesn't like thunder & poor old Con was terrified of it, Theoden...not so much, he's alot calmer. You're lucky Molly is not badly bothered by them, especially of they're fairly regular. Batton down the hatches my friend !

~Take care, Michelle & the lads

  • Michelle Walsh

Ah that's so cute Sherry. She reminds me  alot of Con, he was big into his teddies, would groom them even especially the ears :) and he'd do those funny rooing noises and little growls when he wanted to play & I'd have to try & take the teddie away. The boys however are very different...all toys especially soft ones or ones with squeekies must be destroyed a.s.a.p :) Haven't bought any in ages, they prefer  big rawhide chewies instead...last longer than the toys too :)
  • Barbara

Hi Sherry! Thank you for your kind comments on my photos. Hope you and Miss Molly are well. Greetings from hot Vienna. Barbara
  • Dudley Duke of Lancester

Yes! That's Dudley as a puppy. His former owner gave me a pix. She said Dudley was the biggest and most mellow of the liter of eleven so she picked him. He's been mellow throughout his life. A non-barker and a companionable fellow tho mischievous.

At the moment Dudley is 'in the doghouse.' My husband and I went on bike ride that took longer than expected. Dog walker forgot to come by. When we returned Dudley went out, returned to the house and then 'had a messy accident.' We were terrified Dudley had become incontinent but vet said Dudley was 'acting out,' angry at us for being left alone for so long. Can't blame him.

Dudley also hates seeing us pack for a trip. Sight of a  suitcase makes him tremble with anxiety.  Sadly he won't even look us in the eye when we try to say 'goodbye." I feel guilty for going away.  His intelligence is scary!

  • David McIlveen Wright

Sherry, Thank you! Yes it is a beautiful place, if a little wild and windswept right now! Darwin is still having problems. He is bandage-free now, but we are watching him carefully in case he goes back to this lick sore. His poor paw is even a bit worse, because the shoe he was wearing when it was wet out side, to keep his bandage dry, has chafed his wee paw!

Hopefully he will stay away from it ... cross your fingers! David

  • Charlotte Godart - Riverwood

Hi Sherry, thank you very much for your birthday wishes ;-)

    Charlotte

  • Elayne Murphy

Ah yes Sherry i have been bitten alrite... she is my best lil pal. so many laughs. if i had more space id have lots of them ha ha can you imagine....
  • David McIlveen Wright

Sherry, We are both really looking forward to the new arrival - 4 weeks to go! Darwin is really laid back, so I am sure he will be fine with a new wee brother, as long as it isn't too much of a pest! I was the "boytoy" of our previous IS, MC/Tartuffe, his own personal slave, but Darwin lets me get my own way - most of the time!
  • martina mckeag

Hi Sherry thank you for the comments on Sophie your Molly is growing into a handsome

    young lady

  • David McIlveen Wright

I'm sure it will be love at first sight for me too! I can't resist a setter!
  • Eunice Marott

  • McBIRDY - Jean DUHANT

Thank you Cherry for your nice comments about our Keann.
He is very cleaver and a adorable puppy.

Of course we'll take a lot of pictures of our new boy.

  • Eunice Marott

thanks Sherry. Workman back next door after nearly 2 weeks of peace. Molly does not like the noise. Music very loud at 7.30am this morning. I complained now it has stopped. They must think I am a complaining .... but really I don't like to be woken up to their noise. Molly was alseep on the bed and jumped when she heard them. It has been bliss over the last 2 weeks. How is Molly settling back into being at home. So you are getting the fence sorted yes they will miss one another. Talk tonight your time. Going into the city this afternoon to have my hair cut that will make me feel good... I love the head massage they do at the end..
  • Eunice Marott

just after that they came in asked if they could use our power. I said yes but when he knocked at the door I was in another part of the house and I could hear Molly growling. I am over the whole thing. I said to him when will you all be finished and reply was roof on Monday and then it should speed up.

Just back from having hair shampooed and cut nice...

  • Eunice Marott

and no much fun for you work work work. Glad Miss Molly has her friends to play with
