As you described that is exactly how we intend to use the dog crate - will leave the doors open and just let him find it himself. As to our new pup's parentage it is Tagamajo Survivor out of Bootlloo Peekaboo of Clarix. We were in Leicester yesterday to see him and have a couple of photos which I will post later on. When we lost Murphy, I thought we were going to take a pup from Gillian and Mike (Follidown) but unfortunately a scan showed no puppies. As it is impossible for us to be without a Setter we thankfully found Maureen Savage and Bailey will come to us at 11 weeks (as we are on holiday shortly). Thinking back this is actually the first time since 1984 that we have been without a Setter and I must admit even with my husband and son (23) I feel very lonely. Also feel guilty as we had to say goodbye to Murphy as his back legs had gone although he wasnt to the best our knowledge, in any pain. Our previous Setters were definitely very unwell and the decision was somehow easier - this time it wasnt

Have never used a crate before and dont really like the idea but I do remember Setter puppies between the ages of 16 - 24 weeks! My first Setter had a "love affair" with waste paper bins and I remember the chaos - am wise to this fact now and all 'edible' items will be removed. As Bailey is the last pup to leave home, Maureen already has him sleeping in a crate and so hopefully he will be used to it. We are due to collect Bailey sometime next week as we have just returned from holiday and we have a family "do" coming up. I remember Oscar very well as he was literally Bailey's big brother and they both had a white flash.

Have you got a plastic bed in the crate as well or does he just sleep on the blankets?
