- My husband Jim and I have had many dogs throughout our 52-year marriage. Our first family dog was an Irish Setter. They are his dream dog. After she passed we had a cat and later many breeds of dogs, most mixed or not AKC purebred. We are in our early 70's and have one senior Border Collie mix with mobility problems. We thought we could be without dogs after she passes but I miss them too much so I reached out to Irish Setter clubs looking for an older dog. We may have found one. One good thing, either way, is we connected with the great people of the Arizona Irish Setter club. We very much enjoy all of the pictures people post of their dogs. When I asked him if he would be willing to have another dog if we could find an older Irish Setter he didn't hesitate, yes.
