Hello Geoff
I had contact with your dad some years ago, he was a member of the Irish Setter Association, England, and he took an advert in their yearly publication, The Annual Review, I am the editor, his page had a number of dogs on a couch. I was sad to hear that he had passed.
I checked another Setter list and found Red Bramble Lord Briscoe who is about 8 years old.
http://apple.ease.lsoft.com/scripts/wa-PLUTO.exe?A0=SETTERS-L put Red Bramble in the search, you have to be a member to correspond. Perhaps if he still has his bits you might be able to get some semen from him. Ann Marie Kabacz is mentioned in connection with him, she is on that list, but also on the Irish Setter Club of America site, she may have more information of other Red Bramble stock
Best of luck
Rosie
Hi Geoff,
Sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. My family and I have had (and loved) Red Bramble setters. My father-in-law bought a puppy who came over from Ireland. Her name was Kelly. She was mated with Your Dad's Pip. From that litter we got our beloved Murphy. Kelly was later mated with Barkus, and we got Murphy's half sister Killian and my in-laws kept Murmer (He had a heart murmer). I came across this website while doing a google search for the Red Bramble web site... We now have Clancy - who we got from a couple on Long Island (Port Jefferson). Your Dad steered me to them when I was looking for a puppy in 2006 - something that I will forever be grateful for. I believe they said that his lines crossed paths with Red Bramble somewhere back. Not that it matters, as he is now neutered. I would be most interested in hearing how your efforts turn out... Also, I will be seeing my father-in-law soon, and will see if I can get some contact information on where the rest of the pups went, in the event that there may be opportunities there for you.
Regards,
Gary
Hi Geoff,
I spoke to my father-in-law, and gathered the pedigree information for the mother (REDFIRE KELLY ROSE) of our first Red Bramble pup(RAMBLIN' REDFIRE MURPHY). The sire was your Dad's REDBRAMBLE PIP of LURGAVON. Kelly's parents were PAIRK-NU-GLOS(sp) "The Red Fire"- sire and ROSAKEARA ROSIE "KERRY"-dam. The pedigree goes back 5 generations. You may already have all of this information from your Dads records. If not, and you would like it, let me know.
I also have the pedigree information for Kelly's mother - Kerry, going back 4 generations. Her sire was ARDBRACCAN ARISTOCRAT who was a show champion several times. Kerry's story is interesting in that she came over to the states from Ireland - pregnant.. I have a newspaper clipping from the Port Jefferson Record featuring her story. She was bought by John Sullivan of NY from Kate Bride of Wexford, Ireland. The article says that to ship a pregnant dog was unusual and may not have been done before.
Even in the 23 year old black and white newspaper photo of Kerry and her pups, she looks beautiful... I'll scan it and post it - it's pretty interesting.
From Kelly's first litter 11/15/94 (sire Pip), there were six pups. We got Murphy - the only male. Your Dad kept a female - I believe her name was Estella... I do have names and addresses (no phone #'s) of the remaining 4 pups owners, but that information would be 20 years old now.
Kelly's second litter 11/8/95(sire RedBramble Barkis is Willing) produced 5 pups. The litter record I have shows 3 males and 2 females. My father-in-law kept 1 male and 1 female. We got that female (Killian). It says your Dad took a male, but I don't know it's name. That would leave 2 other owners whose names and addresses may be useful.
I could be talked into another pup... :)
Regards
-Gary
Hi Geoff
My name is Mike Hazen I was checking on your quest.
I made the trip to Long Island was able to see all your dads work.
I have one of your father's Setters with all her paperwork.
Her name is Abbygail just turned 12 years old.
Her Dad was Lord Minimus (Poppy) her mother was Minnie Star (Minnie)
Abby was one of four pups.
Are you still looking to carry one your dads work?
Thanks Mike
Sorry for no updates but my autistic son's life aging into adulthood has been difficult but now in a very positive place. I did get one from Dad's bloodlines and he is a great dog but a couch potato who prefers swims using a raft! Spoiled Yes. I hope someone is keeping Dad's love growing but I realized I couldn't!
Happy Holidays!
