Hi there Peter you gave me a good laugh this morning, thank you so much for your comments, I do try not to interferer with my puppies, but, I do feel responsible for all my 'babies' and it is nice to know that people agree with me....Thanks again Dee and the gang
ps I hope that your part of Australia is not getting too much in the way of disasters....;o)) Dee
I am so glad that your corner of the world is still behaving itself. Don't know what is happening to the planet but she is definitely fighting back....
I really do appreciate the kind words and the thoughts of yourself and others, as for the other person, well perhaps pity is in order, I too would hope that my breeders would do the same, I know that my Saffy's breeder would want to help, but not sure about the other one...perhpas that is why I am so proactive re my own 'babies' I know that I am an eccentric old so-an-so but I am too old to change now....ha ha...
My sister used to have Afghan hounds, and I do remember too well waiting for hours until they came back, as they have a serious tendency of running away... they always came back though, but we had at least 10 heart attacks in between... are yours like that too? Irish Setters are so easy in comparison, I can walk in the street with my Irish Setters without lead, I will never ever dare to do the same with an afghan.
Yes your beautiful Rahni is at an age where they look quite different from what they will be... I like the little toupet like in the top of his head, and of course the "mandarin", he really looks great and cute. Azif is already an accomplished beauty, and what a beauty!!!!
You are a very lucky man Peter!!!! very happy for you!
I would love one but not prepared to do all the grooming, in fact I am at the moment trying to find a home for one that is neglected, I think that their beauty makes them 'impulse buys' and then the work puts people off. but yours are a credit to your wife...Love the breed but.....;o))
So true your last comment....shame it doesn't go with all the beautiful little puppies...as a health worning...;o))
OK Peter, you have settled my dilemna ... after seeing your Afghans I wanted to have one, so I was already starting to look at the best breeders here. Then talking to my sister she reminded me hours of daily brushing, which I can manage, but she added ... do you remember this time when they run away ..... Reading your message and the never EVER EVER let them off lead in sn unfenced area, I had to admit that I cannot offer the dog what he deserved... so very sad, but the dog first. So please Peter, do post plenty of pictures of your Afghans than I can enjoy them by proxy :-)
A big cuddles to all your wonderful dogs and many thanks for these great pictures!!!
Thanks, Peter! Joy is quite used to walk with shoes - started when she was about 5 moths old and lost a toe nail in the grid of iron stairs! We bought her a whole set of shoes Christmas before last and had a great laugh for the first 15 minutes, because she walked like a storck :D - but then she realizes that you can run with the things on, so we will be fine next time we come to those stairs, which can be quite difficult if you have to carry your dog - here she is stil only 18 months:
What a wonderful present from your sister...and really nice of the 'instructor' to let you take the pictures of your house....do you own all the land around the woods??? It looks idyllic, I took dogs out this morning in the thick freezing fog -1 to -2 degrees all that sun looks wonderful, if only I was younger I think I may well be 'going down under' me and the dogs that is...
40c will never happen here, well I don't think so anyway....-1 this morning...scraping frost off the windscreen of the car....and sliding on the road, (when I came across someone who thought that they were in France this morning, 'on the wrong side of the road') does this heat not hinder the coats of 'your gang' The Afghans don't seem to be short of coat though...
We get the impression, here in UK, that everyone that lives in the country in Australia has a licence and a plane.....ha ha...its like over here in Scotland, some get the impression that we all run around in kilts and paint ourselves blue....why not eh!!!...;o))
Thanks for this. will be able to speak soon I hope, my old lady, Jas, isn't doing too well at the moment. Hope you will understand...Speak soon Dee and the gang
Yes, I'm from Melbourne, grew up in Yarraville. My husband is English though. We now live in Lilydale. Only have my Irish girl Tess at the moment as we lost my English girl last year. Am only just now beginning to think of another dog which will be nice. Have never had only one dog before.
I think it is nice that you're filling your house & property up with dogs. Couldn't think of anything better.
Sorry that I didn't write more fully last time, but my 'old girl' has been very ill, She has, we thing, had a bit of a stroke this time, As well as an ear infection...the treatment is 'steroids' BUT they come with their own problems.. her heart was racing at over 200 bpm, which in itself will kill her if left, and we couldn't just stop the steroids. but this had to be done,. so she was in the vet, on a drip for two days...now she is at least starting to come round, mentally, but she will never be the same dog again...she has been through so much in the past few months..
She is now a little incontinent which is really upsetting her...not sure how much longer she can keep going...so I was a little bit distracted at the time...still have got to know just where to ''draw the line'' I obviously want her around for ever, we have been constant companions for nearly 10 years now...but she needs her dignity, so a very fine line...I hate it when they get old....I wish they could keep going forever...
Thanks for you kind words. and I know what you mean about the eyes. Jas has had those eyes a couple of times now...I was convinced that she was going to be put to sleep this week. But she has started eating and is so much brighter in herself. So I blunder from day to day, and pray for her to eat and be reasonably happy. Oh well fingers crossed that she keeps improving...Do keep in touch Dee and the gang
Peter you would have had a bigger laugh if you had seen me running around in the dark with a camera trying to catch pictures of Molly....husband thought I was nuts!

And here are here boots - but we only use them when hiking on too rough terrain like the stairs, which are quite common in the mountains:

Hi Peter
You will be pleased to know that the Virtual Dog Show has raised about $66 500 in entries and donations for the Qld Flood Appeal.
Hope all is going well down your way.
