Hi,

As most of you with spayed bitches or neuterd dogs, I too am working hard to keep Pitanga looking as good as she used to!

There were almost no changes for a while, but then the food I used to get them got sold to another brand, the formula changed a little bit, and her coat went wooly on me! I have every reason to believe that with the right food her coat will improve a bit, so I'm trying to find her the perfect brand again, wich is a very slow process!

...And while I don't find it, I have been brushing and trimming and removing the wooly parts the best I can to keep her looking good, but I'm wondering if I'm doing everything right! I don't need her coat to be "show-like", but I do want her to look as nice as her daughter!

Do any of you that are also dealing, or dealt with spayed/neuterd coats have any tricks that could help me in my quest of having a good-looking Pitanga?

Thanks!

I think there are a few threads on here already about spey coats.  But with one of mine, I use a combination of the mars coat king, stripping knife and a grooming stone.  I have also resorted to thinning scissors on some of it, as she is not a show dog, and it just helps to get rid of the longer bits of fluff.

I use the Mars coat king and blades and a stone too and like you a thinning shear but not often on that one is needed now.

I find it easier to keep it up a little bit each day or so rather than let it grow out and have a huge job then.  I find that keeping him really clean and super conditioned helps the most also.  Keeps everything neat looking and untangles so easily.  And mine is in the field everyday so he gets burrs and weeds all over him and with good conditioning they just slide right off him with a gentle comb and brushing.
