Exclusively Setters

Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

Went in the shopping centre today and saw 2 Irish Setter puppies, apparently a breeder sold them and gave them papers etc!  And guess what? At the same pet store that Ruby was from!!!

If people are breeding but not prepared to see these puppies to their new homes THEMSELVES then they should do us all and the breed a huge favour and ----off out of the breed altogether. This is quite obviously an irresponsible person who has no intention of improving the breed but just out to make a few dollars. I feel so sorry for the poor little babies, what a start to life !!!!!!!.

I was just stunned to see them yet again, I had to look twice! Hope to try and get them out of there.

I should of asked who the breeder is, as pet store said they have pedigree papers... It's so upsetting to see! I will ask next time, but I didn't get to as they were closing.. My husband took the photos on his phone, they were quite skinny..

i think it is very sad and selfish. Just about every pet shop near us does it and always looking for people to puppy sit overnight.  See what you can find out from the pet store but I doubt they will be forthcoming with information.
A friend of mine is probably at the pet store now or going soon, he is going to ask more information, and see if the pups actually have pedigree papers from the breeder like the pet store said so...

Who is going to start a petition to stop this cruelty.

Pups need to be with their mother and not in a shopping centre!!!

So upsetting.

I wish they would stop the sale of all pets in Pet stores all together and never allow it to happen ever again! It's terrible, they have to be confined in such small areas for several weeks, barely get fed no attention etc and you don't know if they are going to a good home or not, or anything about their history. Just like my Setter's sister Jazz her original owner was terrible to her and she left her at the pound!
This is sick, there must a way to change the law down
Under ?.

There's a petition going on I think, but don't know if it will actually happen for sure. Sure hope it does!

It's absolutely upsetting to see them in there!

My friend is going down to see them tomorrow for himself and will see if he can ask who the breeder is.

Yes I did 4 years ago, when I didn't know anything about the breed. She was stuck in there for 5 weeks with her siblings Archie and Jazz. But I am so happy that I have Ruby, I have found her breeder...  Has been reported, hope they can get them out.
That is terrible! I can't believe people. Poor dogs have to suffer in a pet store and what is worse is that you have to see their sad little faces...
Years ago, when I worked in London there was a local pet shop which very often had puppies for sale, among them IS who were kept in cages far too small for them. The pedigrees were manufactured. They had probably come from Welsh puppy farms. You could even buy pedigree pups from Harrods then. I am not sure where they come from these days but it is very worrying if you say these pups are from a breeder. If the premises are licenced and checked by a vet and given a clean bill of health there is not a lot you can do. Petitioning the local council to revoke the licence has been tried many times in the context of trying to close down puppy farms with not much success. Addressing the RSPCA on the issue doesn't work either. The pups have to be badly neglected before they will intervene.
I used to go to this pet shop every day and complain. In the end the proprietor got so irritated with me that he vowed never to sell IS puppies again, and he kept his word, certainly during the few years that I worked nearby. I was lucky. Hope you are too.
