Exclusively Setters

Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

My dog has the pointiest head of any setter we have had. He uses it to turn the ceiling lamp in the car on and off daily! All kidding aside. Is it a good thing or a bad one from breed standards to have a major conehead? Our breeder said his litter had the most developed knot she had seen in years. He really has a rather boney defined forehead as well. All he needs is a propeller attached and he would be all set.

I can't believe after posting this, I was loading Dub in the back of the hatch of my car and we collided! That point hit me in the brow bone. I just got back from the Emergency Room. I have a goose egg and I am dizzy and have a headache from hell. I just thought the whole time I was crying and getting looked over how I never should of made fun of his pointy head!
Other than a swollen eye and a major headache, I will live.
oh dear susan hope you are ok .my husband got a right shiner once when he was bending down to layla and she was getting up.lol .youll be able to laugh about it when your soreness has gone.
Oh Susan! That sounds painful! I hope you're okay.

I think the breed standard asks for a well-defined occiput (cone head :-P~~~) But I don't think they should be too "pointy." At least, not to the point where they put you in hospital lol
Just out of interest...did you tell the doctor exactly how you hurt your head? What did they say? I hope they didn't laugh!
The ER doc actually said this is a common thing they see. I know I fractured my nose in three places once from my Brittany and I colliding. Now that was painful as well. I have this extremely colorful half black eye now. It is on the top where you would where eye shadow. Only it is red, purple and blue. It actually looks like I put my make up on badly or smeared it. Too make things even more fun, the next morning after this happened (yesterday) my 90 yr old mother in law fell outside and broke her pelvis. So I was actually back in the same Er the next day and they were like "weren't you just here?"
I am off to the hosptial now to visit her. When it rains, it pours.
I had two black eyes from one of my dogs, she got up as I went down. It made my eyes water!!!!! Didn't get as far as ER, but it took a long time to go away....dark glasses, etc, why do these things always happen in the winter, there I am walking around like some kind of gangster.
Sorry to hear that, Susan. I hope you and your mother feel better soon.

xx
