Reuben goes to dogs palace Friday for pampering!

Reuben is going for his first pampering session Friday to a local groomed called dogs palace (more like a spa place) and will have an all over 2.5 grooming session. Lucky boy! I have asked them only to trim his ears and feet and no other trimming. However is there a set way I should ask them to trim his ears? I presume as professionals they know what to do but as inexperienced in this I wanted to check. His coat is slightly changing at mo due to the chemical castration implant superlorin, so I have advised them of this also. Then the lucky pup gets a walk to the local pub with dog friends for a Xmas pint and no doubt get his lively cleaned pampered body all muddy !!! Haha

sounds wonderful, wish it was me going to the spa
Thank you Sue, he has quite a thick wavy coat so they don't need thinning but just length really. what you said about clearing excess length etc makes sense so i will do that.
His coat has got subtle changes e.g, a bit dryer and coarser in certain places but not terrible at all as he still has a beautiful coat but not as silky as before and when i brush his tail i notice it most as really quite a bit dryer. It is hard to explain and i expect i am being fussy! However his lack of humping and chasing the girlies definitely overides the coat issue in a positive way. He can just charm the girls instead - the handsome devil that he is!
Oh my goodness, poor English setter!! Yes they have strict instructions to trim ears and bottoms of feet only - I too would be very upset if they touch his feathering and belly.
Oh I would freak out just dropping Cash to be trimmed at any groomer unless I knew for sure they were setter people.
And around here that would be a rare thing. I met a lady who owns an english and she is a groomer. If and when I would need it done to Cash, I would ask her to do it since she knows how to groom the breed. Her dog looks very nice.
Reuben is a lucky guy Louise......
Good question.. I also booked an appointment for Oberon, since he's due for his nails and paws.. And I know they will ask me how do I want the ears to be trimmed.. GULP!

Does this video make sense for you? I think they are cutting far too much but maybe is my ignorance :(

I think Oberon needs just a bit of trimming in the length, I dont want at all to make the top of the ears thinner.. but he has lots of ears beind the ears. Would you trim them?
Just got back Reuben from Groomers and he looks great, much neater ears, feet and smells delicious! We went through exactly what I wanted as she said everyone is different and it was important to trim to my requirements and was very helpful to a novice like myself. Apparently they do lots of setters. Reuben was so relaxed that he didn't even get off their leather sofa when I arrived! Trouble is now I have spotted a posh new collar and matching lead there but did refrain for today!
Oh and he had doggy Xmas beer there too! Thanku everyone for your help.

what's a doggy beer? I'm intrigued.

I have no idea what was in it but a drink made for dogs that Reuben loved. They do lots of healthy dog cakes etc as well.
