I have a nine month old male Irish setter whom I finding difficult to train to recall. Hes also jumping up and knocking over children, running after other dogs and refusing to come back. Hes been to training classes but just chooses to ignore me when he wants.
Our dog has just turned 1, we have similar issues (though no children) - our sense is that our dog is just so happy that he wants to play with everyone - he just doesn't realise how clumsy & big he is! He is settling down, so hang on
I have to say we had Guinness neutered, as in truth unless you plan to breed, then having a sexually mature dog ( & especially a strong minded breed like a setter) is more trouble than its worth.
Guinness has settled down really well & is getting 'better' all the time as he's growing up
I also think we're seeing his personality whether he's intact or not

They are stubborn!
