My wife Nicky & I had a border collie for over 15 years. When he died it took us a long time until we were ready to have another dog - we took the plunge & had Guinness, our Irish Setter in 2012 & we couldn't have been happier
Now guinness is over 4 years old, we have now just taken ownership of Copper

HI john
thanks for the encouragement
Since then he ran off the beach onto a dual carrage way and totally ignored me. Everyone keeps telling me to neuter him but Ive discovered there are increased health risks in neutering before hes mature and if I do Ill never see the dog he would have turned into if left entire.
yes youre probably right, ill probably get him neutered . He's actually getting better although he'll take off is he decides to go to meet another dog and will jump up on small children. Hes 10 months now and only has feathering on his legs and tail, not his body coat. Is this normal, will his longer coat come later. ?
Guinness in 14 months now & while he has some of his feathers on his chest, legs & tail, his fur has a long way to go, especially on his back - have a look at our pictures - I'll upload some more - out of interest, where in Devon are you?
We could perhaps meet up if it's not too far, we live near Tiverton
