Acting as illustration for Irish Setter in a dog book

Well, you can imagine the happiness when friends tell you that your dog is pictured in a dog book. Unfortunately the book is sold out and not available in second-hand shops either but i finally (after two years or so) managed to get a scan of it :-) (I don't specially like this photo btw, but hey, you can't get it all. Just wonder if they shouldn't have asked me for permission to publish it????)

The photo was taken in September 2003 when Odin went Best in Show-2 in Kecskemét.

in case somebody wonders, the r/w puppy is Cormallen Moonlight Silver.

Hi Laura - you have to be asked if you are on a foto - your dog was entered in a show, so they could argue that you agreed having her presented, but as an image of you is printed as well, they need to ask! And this former r/w puppy Rufuzs has become Grandpa on Sunday morning! 1 grandson!

I think permission is needed for this sort of thing now more thanyears ago.You could have had a free copy of the script and given your approval. Its a shame you could have maybe made a fortune if you put it in how much for its print. Not much i dont suppose but you will never know now.

I think it should be a priviledge to have your dogs picture in a book as a representative of a whole breed. Would you deny them a permision to publish it? If not, than what is a problem!?

...For that matter, i will never understand people that put restrictions on a web sites (for example) that not alow someone to save a picture on their own computers.

At least in the finnish publicity law the publisher has to ask for permission to publish a photo of a person. So yes, I think they should've asked you.
But it's a beautiful photo and a nice memory :)

Don't misunderstand me, I am happy and proud!
On the other hand, the photo was taken by a professional photographer, so maybe the publisher paid him. I don't mind but still think they could have asked. I would have said YES anyway, whether they paid or not :-)

Yes, normally you should be asked.
On the other hand as Silvia said, you are there at the show and quite aware of being photographed and the rights of the photo belong to the photographer and not to you...and NO you would not have been paid :-)
Had you asked for payment of any kind, they would quickly choose another irish setter...and THAT would have been a pity!

You can be proud over that picture!
My dogs have been published in an Estonian book. But they asked me for permission and I did agree, of course ;-) I'll try to scan those pictures and put out for you to see.

The photograph looks very good, and I know how proud you will be.
Congratulations - I will look for a copy and get your autograph!!
