I must say that I am really pleased that people are so supportive of this 'new problem' My girl Jas is the dog that is clinically Night Blind. Her sister is one of the others, the other dog has a similar female line but a much wider male line. If anyone wants to know, if their dogs may have a problem, please contact me on the site, and I can give you my email address to let you talk to me directly...if you have any feelings that your dog may have a problem already, then please get in contact with me, please remember that this is a very difficult problem to diagnose, a dog will adapt to their failing eyesight, he could be completely blind and you might not know. If Carol can put the leaflet on line you will see there is a test that you can do, please try it. When we did the test with Jas she couldn't move at all, she was terrified...
Please don't think that the lines are ONLY Caspians they are NOT, and we think that this goes back a long way. (this is just my opinion, I am not a geneticist of a vet). And we do not want a ''Witch Hunt'' here there is no blame anywhere as to this problem, it is completely new to Irish Setters.
I am not sure if this needs a new Blog so please let us know if this is the thought.

i totally agree with dee rance regarding regular eye testing and also been tested for lopra..my little girl was diagnosed with pra some 30 months ago.she is hereditry clear and she has been dna and is clear for the rod cone 1 pra that irish setters are tested for yet she still has a generalised form of this horrid disease.she was 2 and 1/2 when she was seen by professor bedford and he thought shed had it for some 18 months.we hadnt realised there was a problem until she went to stay with my daughter for a few days and this was when it was picked up (her been in different surroundings)NOTE we know theres not anything anybody can do when your dog has been diagnosed with such a disease, theres alot of tears (and believe you me there is alot of tears i and my family cried for 18 months) but most of all we can now understand her needs and help her adapt to her disability.she was special to us before all this but now she is extra special to us and SHE KNOWS THIS
