I'm really ashamed to present you the best bitches from the french championship. The CACIB went to the bitch from the left ( 4 years) !!!!!!

I feel sorry for the bitch too...she is not trained as a show dog and the handler does not know how to get the best out of her....the problem is that as she is a field trial dog and she needed to win there too to get her full award.....

I didn't realize she was that old, she looks like she's less than a year old. Even so, the handler has her stacked so badly it has to make her look worse. I guess I'm feeling very sorry for the little bitch and the way people are calling her ugly.

Oh, my. I couldn't say the little bitch on the left is ugly by any means, he has her stacked incorrectly and she's roaching in the back!! She IS very thin, but her coat is gleaming. She looks like a very young bitch, too. I think it's the handler that is presenting her in a bad way, I couldn't say the poor mite is ugly. (no such thing as an ugly dog)

Hmm...perhaps I'm being naiive...but it'd be nice to think we could all participate on this forum without resorting to denegrating ANY dog as "horrible" and "atrocious." The thing I used to love about this site was how nice it was to have somewhere to come where people from all over the world could enjoy their Setters in whatever form they happen to take - field-type, show-type, European, UK, Australian, American... Not any more, it seems.

What are people trying to prove?? The "showies" will not change the opinions of the "fieldies" and the "fieldies" won't make the "showies" rush out and change their dogs either. Deal with that simple fact, and just accept that everyone here has the right to love their own type of Irish as they see fit. Being rude and cruel to each other achieves nothing except to polarise both sides even more.

And before we start the "he said-she said" blame game, let's not forget - we're ALL IRISH SETTER LOVERS here. I personally find it reprehensible to read about ANYONE'S dog being called horrible. Remember - you always CHOOSE what you post. If you don't like what others have posted, maybe show some dignity and restraint and keep your nastiness to yourself? If you choose to post something nasty and belittling about one photo of a dog you've probably never seen in the flesh...what do you think that says about you? It certainly says nothing about the dog.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions - but that doesn't mean your should feel compelled to share them with the world, especially if your intention is to make other people feel bad or upset. If that's the only aim of your game, here's an idea - keep your nastiness to yourself and DON'T POST.

I'm sorry to post this, and I'm sorry if it comes across as the opposite of my intentions. But come on, people. I'm sure we're all better than what we've become.

I know I am a little late to the party, but the discussion is now gone into the realms of absolute fantasy. If the French exhibits are the one extreme then let's look at the other.Log onto Irish Setters Uk and Ireland. Scroll down to the photo of the European Winners Show in Dublin and take a very good look at what was deemed to be Best in Breed winner. Is this horrible exhibit correct? Absolutely not. The French exhibits are not intruders. They are what they are , working Irish Setters capable of doing what they are meant to do. This Irish Native Breeds Irish Setter Best of Breed is atrocious. Is the breeder proud of this? Dish face. No chest = no stamina. Rounded from occiput to stop. Brick on brick ……………..I think not ! It is boned like a Great Dane , no defined muscle. One has to wonder if this dog ever runs freely ? Sadly judging in the homeland has not reference to any Breed Standard, It is purely about faces and so you get horrible results like this. In the European show this same exhibit was Best in Breed, but then its breeder was the Irish Setter Ring Stewart , , and the judge was the Breeder's friend ……………………..Breed Standards. Is this an Irish Joke? I laugh from across the pond. Most judges do not even know the Breed Standard. How otherwise would horrible dogs like this win anything, So you still think that things, apart from the Puppy being a prize, that is criminal, in France are worse?

OK, I add more you to understand - both exterior and working style will tell you what breed at front of you.
It's not EP at all. You have to look at more photos of Sheantullagh dogs and you'll figure it out. This photo is just one of thousand of second from dog life and its not possible to judge about breed.

Yes I agree with Carmel, style is not sign of purity if you have lost most of the Breed characteristics. Any crossbred could work like a Setter and yet would be a cross and not an Irish Setter.
