Exclusively Setters

Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

My setters have always enjoyed this search dog training and I find it an excellent way of keeping myself and dogs busy and active. We normally train in the forests but this time we were on more open ground so it was possible to take photographs.

send off

on the send out, see 'bringsel' attached to collar

Glen has picked up his 'bringsel' ...

...and is coming back with it to show me he has found someone

Glen leads me to his find

Glen working out a scent that he picked up above this rough ground

there he is!

relaxing together after training

the final picture:-)

Was there any breed team? I can see 2 of every breed, that's why I ask :-))
Superb photos as always, and he seemed to enjoy every minute of it. Thanks for posting, Susan!

It really seems to be an exciting activity for both dogs and owners! Did you ever do a REAL search and rescue? I mean are you contacted to help to find lost people?

Thanks for your comments!
Marta - no breed team, just a lucky chance... the Longhair Weimaraner was missing, as was Glen's brother.
Petra - I used to be in the official search team with Shannon, but now it has become too complicated for private dog owners. Normally they use professional police dogs with professional handlers or else you have to be in the SAC (Swiss Aline Club) and live in a mountainous area and train yourself in alpine techniques...

Great photo blog, Susan! This must be such a satisfying work for the dogs. I'm sure Glen and Erin enjoyed it, plus you had very nice weather!

If you ask Glen (or me!) we'd choose Scotland anytime:-))))))))))

sorry, my typing: SAC = Swiss Alpine Club

Ah yes but here you'd have to fight against very high winds and horizontal rain to find people!!! Even if the scenery is nice ;-)
