Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World
Hi everyone,
Talked to my dad, who told me that Romã is getting fatter everyday, despite the diet she already is on. He also thinks her belly is changed and now looks like a "beer belly". He believes this has got to a point where we can't consider it normal anymore.
Tomorrow my dad is going to drop off Romã at a friends house, who is a vet and works at our University Vet Hospital. She'll be completely checked to see if/what is wrong with her.
I know she is in very good hands, and that everyone will take care of her as well as I would, but it's really. really hard to know one of my babies might be sick and I'm literally across the world, unable to help her, be with her and actually be there to see what's wrong.
I'm thankful for the great care she's getting, but I also feel really, really bad I'm so far from her. I wish I could just be there... I wasn't prepared for this!
oh teresa I am so sorry for this! it must be really difficult and distressing, not having a chance to jump on a flight and see what happens.. please keep us posted , i hope is nothing serious and i am sure she'll be absolutely well taken care..
So far here's what we know:
No cancer, no fluid in her abdomen and her physical exam is completely normal.
Her vet even thinks she looks nice as a chubby dog! I DON'T!!!
We know that she gained about 3 kgs in one month which is way too much. Now we have to wait for her blood work and see how her hormones are doing, but it's not one of the big nasty stuff.
Hahaha, Catherine, I hope so!
I'm worried at how fast the weight is coming, so we're checking her blood just to be sure, but even if it's her thyroid, it's manageable! She already takes daily meds anyway, so what's one more pill?
I feel like i can breathe again
Hope all is well with your girl. So hard for you not to be there in person.
It sounds like it could be the thyroid or maybe Cushings, but there are usually symptoms to do with the coat and lethargy etc. Anyway she's having a thorough assessment so hope it goes well.
Blood work came back - all is fine and she's just a big fat setter! :)
Hi Teresa, Only read your blog today. I am so pleased that Roma is fine. It is better for Roma to be a little chubby than to be too thin. She will be very happy when you are home again (and you too). Susan xxxxx
Hi Teresa, such a relief :))) watch her belly shape then, and no more ice creams ;) maybe somebody is spoiling her with little treats while you are away? maybe her grandad? ;)
