I am laughing at your Molly sitting on you while you type....don't you know that's why they are called Irish Setters?  though I think Irish Leaners also work!

Kennels can be tough to find a good one that is also fair about pricing and also one that is caring with dogs I found....I go by reference and also try to check them out in person before using one.  The one we use I have used for over ten years and so far so good.  I just feel a wee bit more secure that she is safe while we are gone than having someone come into our home...afraid they might leave a door open etc.

We have a couple of variety of sparrows here...but the main ones were imported from England and boy did they multiply like crazy....they just are really messy.  I would love to see a Kookabura....makes me smile to even say the name as that was a favorite song of my Girl Scouts ( and for myself when I was a Girl Scout growing up).  I hope your trip goes well and that it is not too hot ....and that Molly does really well at the new kennel...and just think about when you pick her up....major cuddles and kisses .

The song I was referring to ends with laugh kookabura laugh kookabura laugh, Our Molly would be on birding out the window watching all the birds if they were making that much noise.  Funny how you wish for the sparrows we can't get to leave us alone here.  Your Molly sounds like ours when Alan is gone....it's like she wants us all here so she can put on her shows....she is rather a Diva.

Our home is heated with a forced air natural gas furnace....not too many here use wood for heat in cities.  Do you have to use a lot of wood for winter> and how often do you have to load it with wood?  We had a coal furnace when I was a young child and I can remember the coal man delivering it down a chute into the basement and my
Dad shoveling it into the furnace....with our gas furnace you have to change air filters, but basically you have it cleaned and checked for cracks yearly and then you turn it on and use the thermostat to regulate the heat temperature.  I better try to get some sleep as I work tomorrow...but after these six days are over I am off for two whole days and have a total of 8 hours of work the next week  ...guess I can clean house and do some decent cooking here instead of the quickie meals we are having this week with my working three nights.

I keep looking at your profile picture of Molly....and she does look so much like our Molly ....infact my Angie thought she was ours.  Does Molly get more active in cooler temperatures?  Ours likes it anywhere between 30 to 75 degrees....and she loves it to be windy...nose in the air trying to figure out new scents.  Talk to you soon and give Molly a cuddle for me.

Hi...finished at the other store as manager got her medical release today . So no work til Friday here!

Trying to figure out your wood combustion...does it blow air through out the house?  and you said you would not bother with it if it if you had to do it...wouldn't your house than be very cold?

I do have pictures of my other IS but need to set scanner up to scan onto computer as they are not digital pictures.  Will see if I can figure that out soon.

Sounds like your Molly is doing what we call the wiggle worm dance here...everypart seems to be in motion .  We do have trouble getting pictures of Molly without her tail wagging here....she wags more than any of our males did.  Does your Molly give kisses?  I was so used to our boys and the huge kisses we got from them it came as a complete surprise to have an Irish who does not really give kisses....she will lick a hand or foot but not faces usually....I even smeared some steak on my face to let her know it was okay for her to give kisses but seems for some reason we get neck nuzzles instead from her.  Molly will rub her neck and face on your neck or even on your face but still no kisses....we wonder if she was punished for giving kisses by her original owner.

We have oppusums here...not usually in our yard and you usually see them at night when your car lights will pick them up .  Wonder if they are the same....they do have really nasty looking claws...move really slow and if you come upon them in day time usually they will play dead,  Sort of look very prehistoric and not pretty at all.  Do you all have chipmunks there?  Molly does not have too much to be watched out for in regards to dangerous animals in our yard here.  Mostly it's the critters having to stay out of her reach...I do think she would try to play with them and not mean to hurt them but would just as soon not find out@=

Our chipmunks are cute...fun to watch them run across the top of the six foot wooden fence..with Molly watching as she knows she can not reach them,  When I got home tonight she had put her bone next to Alan while he watched tv but minute I put my things down she was back into her hide the bone routine..she can be a very funny girl.  Bone is now put away under her beach towel I think for the night...Alan said she got it from where she hid it last night and just put it next to him and did not try to hide it whole time I was gone.  Think it will be our evening show for a few weeks til she finally decides to eat it..it is completely edible and she enjoyed the last one when she finally ate it so whole game does not make any sense to me. Rules according to Molly I guess.

Molly is a lot like our first Shilo...not a big chewer of things that are not hers...they both did in one of my shoes ...I just left it on the floor and if they went to continue chewing I told them no...took less than a week and they never touched another shoe.  I read some of those stories and I can identify with some of them...I did have one rather wild male here until at 5 he finally settled down.  That is the one I told poor Alan so many lies to cover up all the mischief he did as Alan would tell me if he does one more thing one of us is leaving....broken windshield(with his head), drapery rods pulled out of the wall, ate my glasses, but then one day it was like he woke up and decided to just be an angel...kept waiting for his next mishap but just like that he stopped.  I even took him to the vets to see if he was sick as he was so calm .

What are you thinking about spaying your Molly?  I know you are pulled both ways ..for us that was done before we even knew about Molly so not a decision we had to make.  We did neuter our males except the first one.  I never wanted to breed as I do not know enough about genetics and just really wanted them for companionship. If I was home full time I could see me falling in love with the idea of puppies but also know it is a lot of work...so perhaps it is best I do not have to make that choice.

Aren't they fun to see them with their special "babies"...Molly has a few soft lovies here that are carried around...taken outside to play with in nice weather and if she forgets to retrieve them she goes out in the dark to carry them back inside.  Like she is a liitle mother to them it seems.  Have been home today and her bone is sitting behind me and she is paying no attention to it....beginning to think it is her evening show event...will see if she repeats her hiding game tonight again.

Is your Molly's teddy a stuffed one or one of the new unstuffed teddy's...just the fur and usually a squeaker or two?  Have been thinking I need to get Molly's St Patricks collar cover out for her...her everyday collar says Diva with flowers and matches the leash my daughter got for her as a joke.

I hope this cyclone is not bad for your daughter and granddaughter...even when we are not feeling close to them we still are their Mom's so we worry no matter what.  How long does your cyclone season last?

We have windows open here today and sun is shining but still have snow on hill in back yard...was frozen ice so is melting slowly it seems and yard is a muddy mess..progress though as Molly is trying her best to not trounce thru the mud this year..last year she did not care.:)

Eunice I understand how it can be with daughters...I have my wild child who is married...have learned it is her choice how she lives her life and not mine to approve or disapprove or even to take responibilities for her choices...hard lesson for me to learn but I finally did it.:)

So your lounge is like our living room....in front of the house..Molly prefers when we are home to rest on sofa in the family room so she can watch out the window for her squirrels . Just finding what we call things interesting ..same things just different wording.

I have tried sewing up stuffed animals here...seems she just reopens the hole as fast as I sew them so now when she unstuffs one I just dispose of the stuffing...when it is all the way flat we call it "road kill " here and those are allowed outside whenever she wants to take it out there...figure they are on the way out so she might as well truly enjoy them.  She does have a small ( meant for a poodle type dog) turquoise teddy she has had since first time she went to our groomers...it was in a basket on the counter for owners to buy...well she picked it out by placing her front feet on counter so how could I say no?  Surprisingly it looks just like it did when she bought it home a year ago and she does carry it around and play with it alot...that one we call her baby. I did find some of the new unstuffed (or stuffing free) ones here and she enjoys running and shaking those as they swing really freely ...one was a raccoon and the other is a wolf.  Can I say spoiled rotten here?

I try to bathe her about once a month unless she gets into something that needs taking care of....I take her to the groomer for nails though,  Afraid to cut those myself as I nipped the quick of our first setter .  I usually have the groomer clean her feet , trim behind ears and just a general light trim as needed on her fanny about twice a year to make it easier to maintain here at home.  Does your Molly have her dewclaws still?  Ours does.  Fleas we fight more in summer....knocking on wood here as I try to use the Frontline as little as possible so unless she is going somewhere(kennel) I try to use flea shampoo to keep it under control.  If it is a bad year here I will do Frontline on a monthly basis .  Is your Molly on heart worm preventative?
At 7:15pm on February 16, 2011, Sherry Miller said…
I am afraid that Molly here is spoiled rotten as she gets lots of toys for Christmas, her birthday and for Easter( we hide them and she gets a basket),  Seems like one of us is usually finding something for her once a month or so here.
At 7:41pm on February 16, 2011, Sherry Miller said…

In April every year Molly gets a blood test to check to be sure she is free from heartworm and then every month we give her a pill as a preventative.  Do they have an injection to prevent the heart worms or just check to be sure Molly does not have them? Mosquitos are the carriers here for heartworms so we have to keep her on preventative.

I did not know you could use a flea collar while they are on Frontline...I have been lucky last year as did not seem to have any flea problems but did use the frontline when we kenneled her.  Have purchased a more natural oil to put on her but want to show it to our vet before trying it.

Guess people who do not understand pet owner's can not understand the joy we get from having them.  I think they help keep us young but also help us to deal with stress in our lives ( except when they are the one adding the stress)

We were married a long time before our girls came along so our IS were our babies...and we spoiled them also ...perhaps not as much while our girls were young but never forgot to include them in holiday celebrations here....including Frosty Paws anytime there is a family birthday.

Interesting on the heart worm injection...new one for me...will be interesting to hear if they offer one here.  Mosquitoes do get very heavy here and this year should be a rough one due to flooding that will be coming after all the snow north of us...and that is even before we get our spring rains.  I did not realize your fleas were so heavy there...some years here we have a bad year with them but we did have a long , hard freeze this winter so I am thinking that fleas and ticks should not be so bad here.  Do you get all of Molly's injections at once?  and do you do a one or three year rabies shot?  I am leaning toward a three year shot for that one this year.  I try not to over vacinate for things she is not likely to be exposed to but keep my ears open for anything that might be going around where we live.

Our Molly gets same injections plus leporitis(spelled wrong) , We have never had kennel cough but always get the nose spray for it when she is tested for heart worms...we also check for other worms the old fashioned way.  Had a complete blood panel done on her last spring but will wait a few years before doing it again....it was more a precaution to be sure everything was ok and a baseline for in future for us to have.Bpne hiding game has just started again here...while I watched tv with Alan she put it in his lap but he has gone to bed so now she is busy hiding it again. Notice she chewed on it for a few minutes today but seems it is more fun to hide it.

Is this rain because of cyclone? or start of getting closer to winter for you>?  Bet a light rain makes for good sleeping.  I don't like the really loud thunder at night...wakes me up.  Rest tend to sleep thru it .

So Molly is asleep on the sofa(lounge) in your living room (lounge)....our Molly just decided to do the same ...hid the bone and is zonked out.

and we have the moon here....opposite in all weather and times...but so much in common...starting with our Molly's.  Enjoy your evening with Neil...I am off to bed before Molly sneaks in there and gets my spot.

Bush flowers?  do you mean like a branch with flowers on it?? or is that a name of a flower there??  Hope she does not knock over your vase....funny what they decide to take a liking to.   So far Molly here does not garden on plants..just her silly craters to try to get the moles.  Glad Molly is really showing progress on being home alone with no accidents.  I was home first week we had Molly,,sort of took week off to settle her in and we worked on house breaking and she caught on fast. Now I never even think about it as she will airbark if we are in kitchen or family room to let us know she wants out.

Took her for a three hour walk today in a park around a lake....was 77 degrees and windy....not our typical weather but will get back down to freezing early part of next week again.  So pleased that Molly did not forget her manners on meeting people, walked well and did not even look at dogs who were barking at her.  Like they aren't good enough to behave so are beneath her notice.  What a Diva!  Frustrated her a bit as she did not wanto get into the water but I kept her out.  She found a soccer ball out on ice she was really wanting to go get but again no way.  Fun day....hope your weather is cooler so you can enjoy being outside with Molly.

77 was unseasonably warm forthis time of year ...will be starting to drop again over the weekend but was so nice to get that first long walk of the year in today. This is the month that we sometimes get the most snow....but hoping snow is done for this winter.

Bet Molly thought you were bringing some of the outside inside for her so she was just going to rearrange those flowers for you.  She will get better and better on the staying alone inside and not having accidents.  Molly mostly sleeps while we are gone so she can be ready to romp when we come back....not too bad in the daytime but who wants to romp at midnight?  Tonight she is tired...no hiding bone game and is sleeping in the chair by the front door as I type this.  Think I wore us both out today,

Hi Eunice,

It's lovely to be friends with you. I have enjoyed viewing your photos of Molly, one photo in particular I thought at first was my Ruby.

If you're close by in Sydney, maybe you can come by and be in the St Patrick's parade in March? My family and I are in it each year with Ruby and Rufus, it is fantastic.
