Hi Chantal, just a week ago I had to finally on St Patricks Day put down my lovely Rachel who I bred because she suddenly couldn't get up or down.  My 4 year old daughter  and I haven't got used to our beloved old Rachel not being here with us.  She would have been 16 in August.  Her father was just 16 who was from the UK when I had to have him put down and his father in England was around the same age I believe.  I have Rachel's 6 year old daughter, Ciara who I am hoping to breed from next season as I have not bred her yet.  It is a sad but hopefully exciting time thinking we will have another Irish to share our lives with and who will share a heritage with all our previous Irish.

Hi Chantal yes the awful decision came quickly when Rachel became distressed not understanding why she couldn't get up or down and she had started a season the night before which didn't help.  The wonderful old vet (who is 80) seeing my distress and Rachel's gave her some sedation which immediately settled her so when a short time later she was administered the 'green dream', she went very peacefully.  For some months previously she had been losing weight and was very thin when she died.  She ate for 3 Irish and ate like a Queen being offered food all day (and doggie treats) to no avail.  She never complained or got cross with my 4 year old daughter if she accidentally ran into her.  She had the most beautiful of temperaments.  She had all her 'marbles' knew how to go outside to the toilet from her bed in my bedroom even though she was virtually blind (sensed light) and also when I was in the living room watching tv in the evenings would lie by my feet or if I was on the computer.  She is so much missed I still can't believe she is no longer with us.  In the end it was her body that let her down  as it had worn out.  She has longevity in her lines but think too that was wanted to see me through a  very difficult and sad 4 years since my partner died of cancer leaving me with a 10 month old daughter to raise on my own at 48 which has only ended this week.  I hope Ciara has some lovely puppies some time  this year and will post photos when (being positive) it happens.

Hi Chantal,  I should of explained myself better.  This week we settled an estate matter which has taken some of the financial worry about providing for my daughter away.  The missing and grief will go on for the rest of my life as my partner was my friend since I was about 20 (and my dog vet).

Thankyou for the birthday wishes Chantal....beautiful day here today....light jacket only needed as we went to some of my favorite little shops....antiques and crafts and found a new Dog Bakery right in the middle of my shops so naturally Molly got some special treats brought home to her.....they also had the Deer antlers there....$25 for the large ones but only had the itsy bitsy ones there today so will have to keep looking if we are to try those for our Molly. Alan and I had lunch outside at a tea shop there....as Angie will not be home til tomorrow so I get to be terribly spoiled this year with a whole weekend of birthday .....and Molly will at least have her special doggie icecream treat tomorrow ...not sure what cake is yet as I told him let's wait for Angie to be home....college weekend trip for her Geology Club....and if your president of the club you sort of have to go!  Hope all is well for you and that Darwin is keeping you outside on some wonderful walks.

Sorry it has taken a while to return your comment,

I will be getting the pup from a breeder in queensland Australia but not Myra, not sure who that is. but we are willing to sit back and wait and get what want.

Looking through this site has really made me appreciate the setters again and what a lovely animal they are.

Thank you very much for your king words, Pitanga and Romã are so glad to be together that I think that will be half of their recovery. I'm just so glad that Romã survived all this and will have so little damage =)

Thanks again for your concern and support

Hi, many thanks for the birthday wishes. Bailey almost got ALL the cake. He jumped up when my daughters brought it into the room and he blew out all the candles. They had to retreat and relight my candles. Never a dull moment with a setter. He makes me laugh every single day.

Thanks again.

Thank-you for your kind words about my photos Chantal.  I must upload some more recent ones as the puppy in them is now 6 and we have a new pup (although 15 months now) and our lovely springer.  I am loving your photos although the one with the setter leaning out of the window scared me!!  Darwin looks georgeous and so nice natured,  I am very envious of that wonderful beach for him to play on.  :0)
