Hello Lyn,
very sad to read your news of Layla. We had a beautiful English Setter, Ferdi, who went blind with lymphosarcoma. He was given two months to a year to live, but went blind within a month.
It is very distressing to see them suffer, when we love them so much.
Perhaps I will meet you at show in England, sometime.
By the way, my husband's father was born in Barnsley.

hi debbie, sorry not to have answered b4 now been away.thanks for your lovely comments regarding layla and yes shes coping fantastically well its me that isnt i just cant believe that she soon will not be able to see although if you see her in the forests or on beach you would not think there was anything a matter.(she has got us wrapped round her paws)no really shes always been our special little girl but now shes that extra bit special and words cant describe the love we have for her.we have had setters for over thirty years but only has pets and its only since we had layla we have been to a few shows and weve thoroughly enjoyed watching them

Have you got any pictures for the site? can't wait to see your dogs, there are some lovely dogs on this site, unfortunately I don't know how to do it all properly yet but I am learning and the people here are so helpful and nice to talk to, you will enjoy it I am sure, Dee and the girls

Oh dear what can I say to that, Is she totally blind or will it get worse?? what were her symptoms? I can't leave my Jas anywhere because she gets so stressed that she bloats, It is such a shame when they have something hereditary, there is nothing we can do to help. I hope this site can help you with her problem, its something that you dread getting and it is something that you 'test' for but it is so rear now that she is the only one I have heard of that has the early onset P.R.A. what do you refer to as the rod/cone type?? I hope you don't mind me asking all these questions? Dee and the girl

Thank you for that Unfortunately there was only 3 in the class and she was the youngest in the veteran class, it was a 'funny' day, some strange decisions, but hey that's showing for you........Saffy seems to be getting better, have talked to many people and it seems that the Stomach being in the wrong position + Colitis and Gastritis was what made her have so much pain...she is on tablets for ulcers and these seem to be working so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you for the concern though, will email you with some news.....Dee and the girls

Thanks Lyn for your reply. Layla looks beautiful also and she is very lucky to have Lucy to look out for her. PRA is a sad thing to happen, but unfortunately it is in our breed as it is many others. Dogs tend to cope very well with limited site and I'm sure with her loving family Layla will do well.

Love to you all,

Lynn & the girls from Oz.

Love the new pictures. Layla looks so happy opening her Christmas presents. My two didn't get that chance, my grandchildren that came up from England and their mother don't like dogs, so it made that kind of Christmas out of the question, but they are RELAXING now that they have gone.

yes, i read about her PRA previously here and i am sorry :-( must be hard for you, but i am sure she is just fine. dogs are wonderful and adapt to basically anything.
as for the snow: thanks god we get snow here in hungary every year. my younger girl was born in sweden, attached a photo of her at the age of 8 weeks :-) both of my girls love the snow, so i can imagine lucy's and layla's joy!
