About swans...the southern coast of Sweden is actually one of the prime matingplaces for wild swans. Sort of like a disco on a friday night. So my dogs are used to these flocks appearing in springtime...which is why they are quite aware that they should keep their distance. But I agree, they are not JUST pretty to look at!
Checked out your mud-video, just as great as the photos!
Well I am most interested to learn about the incredible rumors at the World Show. If you feel like sharing, of course.
Unfortunately I left my show catalog in Mexico with my friend Xavier, but I really don't think we marked it very fully. I don't know if the World Show organization publishes a full catalog, or just placements, or nothing at all. I guess I could go to their site and find out. I also wonder if one of our local California show superintendents might have it on his web site - it is a very extensive and useful site, and they did publish all the entry info for the world show. Their site is www.infodog.com.
About all I can tell you is what mine and Xavier's dogs did, but that might be somewhat helpful to you:
Xavier's female pup (can't remember her full name, call name is Parlay) was best in Puppy B all four days and also was 1st in her puppy Group all four days.
Xavier did not enter his male and female champions on Thursday because he felt the judge very much favored the Allegiance Kennel dogs of Gabriela Garcia Gutierez from Mexico City, and indeed her dogs were BOB and BOS that day. My bitch, Starbrite Wonder Bright Star (Sienna) was 3rd of 5 champion females for the first three days. I entered her on Thursday just to give her some ring experience in the new venue. Gabriela's bitches were 1 and 2 on Thursday, a bitch from either Austria or Australia (sorry about that) was 1st on Friday and Xavier's bitch Siskiyou Fawn Lily Vabrill (Mux) was second and reserve. A male from, again, either Austria or Australia, was BOB.
On Saturday Mux won her class and went on to BOS and her Champion of the Americas title. Xavier's male Triskellion Easy Rider (Harley) was BOB and took a 4th in the Group, which was judged by an American woman named Jean Fournier. We have showed to her many times and always have done well under her with both our Irish and our Gordons. When she took the group picture with Harley, she was very complimentary both about him and about Xavier's presentation of him.
Mrs. Fournier judged the breed on Sunday. That day Sienna was first in the champion bitch class and Mux was second. Sienna went on to BOS and Harley was BOB. That was a very long and hard decision for the judge. She kept going back and forth between the two and finally gave Harley the breed, I think probably because he had a much fuller coat than Sienna at the time - Sienna is a much better mover and has a much nicer headpiece. But we were very satisfied with the judging because both Sienna and Harley got their World Champion titles. After the judging, when Mrs. Fournier was giving out the rosettes, she asked both Xavier and the young man handling Sienna where these dogs came from, and both of them pointed to me, even though I have nothing to do with Harley's breeding or ownership, but just to indicate that they were both American dogs - and there are some similarities in their pedigrees.
So that's about all I know - but I'll be glad to answer any other questions that you have if I can. We had a wonderful time at the world show, but have no plans to travel to another in the near future. This year I had to choose between the World Show or the Irish Setter Club of America National Specialty in Florida in late April - and there was no way I was going to Florida then! I understand the weather was so hot and humid that judging started at first light and finished each day by about 1PM so everyone could get into the air conditioning. That is no fun, for sure!
But for 2008 my husband and I are putting on the field demo and workshop at the ISCA National in Phoenix, Arizona in early April and we will have field Futurity dogs to run in Arkansas in late October at the ISCA National Field Championships, and hopefully a couple in the championships as well, so another major trip won't be doable for us.
I just went to http://www.worlddogshowmexico07.com.mx/foto.html and saw the posted results. It is not complete for every breed. But it is somewhat helpful. It lists each day, with all the Bests in Show. Then it lists each group with all the Best of Breed dogs in each group and then the placements. But it doesn't go below that, so other than the BOB Adult, Joven, Veterans, and Puppy A and B, there is no documentation in terms of placements and entries in each breed. Take a look if you wish - hope this is helpful to you.
Hi Laura,
I just spent a delightful time looking through your large picture collection. Excellent!!
Best wishes to you and Danka and Odin.
Sincerely,
